I have a 4.7 weighted GPA, and a 4.0 UW, which will be higher by my senior year. I’m currently a junior. I take mostly AP classes and will be in dual enrollment for my senior year. I took the ACT twice and got a 33 both times. I’m in the top 1% of my class. My AP classes include two english, chem, calculus, Stats and I’m taking a dual enrollment economics class this year. I have plenty of extracurriculars, including hospital volunteer hours, habitat for humanity, assisted living facility volunteer hours, and general community service such as interact club and key club. (holding officer positions and both). basically, what does it look like my chances of admission would be, and what can I do to improve my chances?? Also, what are options for getting my name out there and known by vanderbilt?
You fit within the class profile. I might take another shot at the ACT and see if you can bump it up a little higher; get the red book if you don’t have it already and do full-lengths every weekend/partial lengths during the week leading up to the test. You could probably do one June/September/October. You could also consider taking two or three SATIIs in your strongest subjects.
Also not sure if you mean that you’re taking dual enrollment instead of AP senior year, or if you’re just doing one dual enrollment along with a full schedule of AP - if it’s the latter it’s fine, but if it’s the former, AP is a lot better for competitive schools than dual enrollment if offered.
At this point the only thing you could really do to increase your chances (other than higher ACT, some SATIIs, and 5s on this year’s APs) is work out finances and decide if you want to apply ED.
I have a mixed schedule. a couple AP and a couple dual enrollment. (for next year) but thank you so much for your help!
are the subject SATs completely necessary?
@zbekkk Here is my advice and take it for what it is worth. My daughter had a 35ACT and 4.0UW and 4.5W. Though a mix up she though she had registered for SAT subject but hadn’t. She got rejected at UNC UVA Princeton, Brown and WL at Vandy. I really think her lack of the SAT subject test hurt her. Not just because the schools were concerned she didn’t have the chops but because she just didn’t take them.
If you are looking at a top school like Vandy or other top tier schools, I would strongly recommend taking them. Also keep in mind you don’t have to report the scores if you don’t like the result, but if you take and do well it can only help you.
