Chance me - Vanderbilt!!

Currently a Junior at a public high school
Academia - (3.96 UW GPA) (4.37 W GPA) Top 4% of class, have taken all the AP classes I could possibly take, and am doing dual enrollment classes with a local four-year college. Due to me taking dual enrollment, it is likely my class rank will rise. My only B was in Spanish 2 (Not a core class). I have made all UW A’s in my dual classes thus far.

Just took the ACT, (Wondering what scores you would presume that I would need to be considered)
F.Y.I - Coming from the dean of admissions himself, he said grades is definitely not what defines an application, it’s what they have done in the community for a pure change.

EC’s:

  1. BoyScouts of America - Eagle Scout, many hours of community service (Still figuring the number) Eagle scout project was a law enforcement appreciation day, whole town was invited, along with a flag retirement ceremony all conducted and managed by me.
I am the SPL (Senior Patrol Leader) I manage all trips, events, cost, food, etc for my Troop.
  2. FBLA - I am part of my local leadership team for my chapter. I am the reporter for our chapter’s FBLA and I send articles to a local newspaper company, explaining the great things we do for community service.
*** I placed 1st place in the state of Alabama for public speaking… (Public speaking always has the most competitors)
*** Next year I placed 3rd in AL, but I knew it was just a bust and later went to nationals…
*** I placed 6th place in the nation! Surpassing the 1st and 2nd place winners of AL (This is my essay hook, where I will talk about how hard I had to work, and that I knew I was something much better than that).
  3. Public Speaking - ^^^ I have mentioned above some criteria, but I use these skills to communicate with my peers and lead them better. I am the main speaker at most of our scout’s eagle scout ceremonies. I speak at my local church when needed.
I was accepted to Mercy College Leadership Academy (NY) (10% Acceptance rate) - Mainly for those with strong public speaking and a desire to excel in business.
  4. Band Marching/Concert - I have played the french horn for 6 years, doing various honor bands, but not district or state.
  • Future - I plan to go back to state competition and trump the public speaking competition for 1st. And Work really hard to go back to nationals and place top 3 :). P.S. 121 other winners 1-3 of public speaking 1 came from their states.

And forgot to mention this, I also do a fair amount of community service with FBLA. Sorry for the long post!

Everything looks good as far as grades/ECs go, keep up your efforts there. Just make sure to do well on whatever standardized test you end up taking because Vanderbilt is pretty score conscious. I’d say a reasonable benchmark (for ACT at least) is 32+ if you intend to apply ED, and 34+ for RD.
