CHANCE ME!!! (will chance back) Vandy, Duke, BC, Emory, Georgetown

Hey everyone! Thanks for in adavance for chancing this. As I said in the title, I will chance back if you leave links.

First off, a little background...

-I live in a small town with a public school that has yearly below average academics
-Since 5th grade, I have gone to a small, private, college prep school
-I have to drive over an hour to get there every morning
-My school has NO AP CLASSES, HONORS COURSES, OR ANY SORT OF ACCELERATED CLASSES (they say that all courses are at an advanced level)

Sex: male
Location: NY
Ethnicity: white
GPA: 4.0 uw (my school does not weight)
Class rank: n/a (although I am almost positive I am 1/30ish)

ACT Scores: 33 Composite
34 English
30 Math
34 Reading
32 Science
7 Essay (This part is awful, but I am retaking the ACT in the fall and should score at least a 10)

SAT 2s:
630 Math II
660 Lit
These scores are also low, but I'm retaking the math and taking spanish, so they should be up a bit. Plus ACT makes up for that right?

AP: I did take the AP english without any course, and I'm currently waiting on the score

Extracurriculars:
-Varsity Soccer (4 years, expected captain next year)
-Varsity Basketball (3 years, captain)
-Varsity Tennis (5 years)
-I have played saxophone in Jazz Band for the past 2 years
-3 years of student government

NOTE: My school basically has no clubs, and no NHS or anything, so I don't have too many options as far as ECs

Volunteering (my school requires at least 25/yr):

-Every summer I help in my library's Summer Reading Program (10hrs/yr)

Adaptive Sports Foundation Coach (2 years/100hrs+training)
-I am a coach on the race team that helps kids with special needs learn how to ski
-We deal with both physical and mentally disabled chilrdren

NOTE: I am an avid skier, and used to race when I was younger. Hence the ability to be a race coach

Schools:
-Vanderbilt
-Boston College
-Emory
-Duke
-Georgetown

My first choice school is Vanderbilt, so I'm wondering if I should do ed even though I could not afford it without serious financial aid. Also, if anyone wants to chance me on the ivies or have any suggestions of schools, I'm open. Thanks!!! DON"T FORGET TO LEAVE LINKS IF YOU WANT ME TO CHANCE BACK.

Even though your school has not given you the most opportunities in ECs and APs, you seem to still do well academically and take advantage of what you do have, such as sports, volunteering, etc…which is great! I am not too familiar with Emory or Vanderbilt but I think you can get into BC! Georgetown and Duke might be slight reaches for you but I think they will see that you have really taken advantage of your opportunities that you were given and give you acceptance! Good luck!

Chance back please?

Thanks Jenny. I am really hoping my counselor will push my lack of options at the school. Good luck with your college search!

Chance Vanderbilt anyone?

You may not get any merit-based financial aid at any of the schools on your list and Boston College (where my D attends) is definitely no exception. You will need to see what your parents EFC (estimated financial contribution) will be. What they think they can afford and what these schools tell you they must pay are often times far apart. I would make sure you have some financial match and safety schools on your list, in case any of the schools on your list accept you but don’t offer you good enough aid.

Thanks for the concern. I have plenty of other match/saftey type schools on my list, such as suny binghamton and syracuse. These are just my top choices.

Vandy=low/mid reach
Georgetown=mid reach
Duke= mid reach
Bc= accepted
Emory=match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1177240-chances-suggestions-will-chance-back.html

You can opt out of ED if the financial aid is not enough (get accepted, see the package, say I can’t do that I need Z and they will try and work with you). Vandy really wants students to apply ED according to my GC, its supposed to really help!

Bump. Anyone else? Any suggestions?

I’d say your strengths are your GPA, ACT score, and the ski coach thing. I don’t know anything about BC but I think you have decent chances of acceptance at Vandy & Emory (better at Emory). You might could get in Georgetown too but because of your lack of ECs Duke is a bit of a reach. I’m applying to Vandy, Emory, and Duke too so I’ll recommend you to the other ones I’m applying to: Wake Forest & Tulane. They’d be matches for you admissions-wise (esp. Tulane).
