Hi.

“SAT: (working towards the 2200s)”

If your SAT exceeds 2200, you’ll have a shot at the top schools. GPA is a little low for Harvard, et. al. Roughly half of admits at Harvard claim an unweighted 4.0. But you’re in the range.

.

I think you should shoot for 2300. Like NotJoe said, your GPA is a little bit low (not very significant) for the schools you listed. A high SAT score should balance this somewhat.

Thanks. I’m going to study for sat this summer so I can get a good score. Also I am thinking of applying SCEA to either Yale or Harvard.

Do you have any other tips?

Your a reach for your first three schools with your present grades/scores, and mid to high reach, specifically for Y and H. On the other hand, the remaining schools are legitimate matches.

Most folks in the know suggest that much beyond at least a 700 on each subtest won’t make a difference. Thus, whether 2200, or 2300, it wouldn’t matter. I’m not sure I ever quite understood this idea of “aiming” for a particular score. My kids took the SATs, and just did as well as they could. One might look in retrospect where one might improve one’s score - but who says, “Oh, look, I’ve probably gotten enough answers right to get a 2250. I’ll just stop right now.”?

In any event, whether in absolute terms a 2300 is all that much better than a 2200, the extra hundred points may not compensate for a relatively-low GPA.

.

Thank you so much. Do you guys have any other tips about applying to these schools?

.

Unfortunately I think you’re a reach for all of these schools except perhaps Boston College. Your scores are not exceptional and your extracurriculars are on the low range of what your competitors’ resumes will look like.
