Dear lilla4 : Your profile starts strong with a solid GPA and scholastic engagement in sports and other areas. Your PSAT at 191 (1910) is a bit of a let down overall and you will want to be in a 2000-2100 range to bolster your case. The 630 on your Math SAT II indicates that the 2000 could be a challenge and you might want to see what you can do to work in this area.

The real “disappointment” in the profile is the lack of an honors/AP curriculum in the math and sciences. We will assume that english and social studies were honors work.

None the less, when you add all of this up, you will not have seen an AP course in the big four areas and have taken German AP given a fluency in the language. Realistically, you are one year behind most high school students applying to Boston College. Given that, I am very concerned about your potential for admission; in summary, you can try, but the starting point at the university might be stronger academically than your background.

Even Patroit League schools, like Bucknell, will expect some level of AP preparation in the core four subjects. Leaving Boston University aside from your list, you have a solid selection of small stretch to very big stretch schools listed. As long as you have your two safeties in place, it is not a bad thing to press for these schools listed, but again, the work will be a step up based on what we have inferred from your profile.

Thanks for your comments. I will certainly try and improve my SAT scores, but I see what you mean about this being difficult. also, the reason i haven’t taken AP classes is because they are not offered at my school, since it doesn’t believe in “teaching to tests” (hopefully colleges will take this into account)
