I've only finished my first semester of 9th grade so far but what are my chances of getting into an ivy league college?

Year: 9th grade, all girls catholic boarding high school

Race: Asian

GPA: (unweighted) semester 1: 3.86

Classes: Geometry H, Physics, English 9 H, 2nd seat orchestra (cellist), Chinese 1, Health, Scripture, World History

Others: help out one on one at a church for mentally and physically disabled kids, adults, and teenagers for 3 years. Go to the senior center often, teach sunday classes at church, volunteering at community hospital, got gold chord for outstanding grades, name is mentioned on the internet and local newspapers for outstanding grades, my brother goes to UPenn (legacy?), Got into California sectionals for cello orchestra.

Enjoy your life. Work hard in school. Come back in 2 years. No sense in worrying about this now. No one can possibly chance you based on 1 semester’s worth of performance.

This probably isn’t the best forum for what are my chances threads, as this is the pre-med forum and our knowledge on such things is not as good as what can be found in other areas of CC.

my first thought was “no, i dont think so”

but then i saw that you were a freshman…

guess what? in the eyes of the admissions officers, all asians get 4.0, play music, help out at senior center, etc.

what you need are sports. get into a varsity team and become captain, or you could join a club and become president. either way, you need sports and leadership

oh, and take french or something. they wont even count chinese as a foreign language for you, even if you’re not chinese.

Extracurriculars, extracurriculars, extracurricals. Only way to distinguish yourself.

Good GPA and good SAT are basically a default requirement. Step up. Don’t limit yourself to just a life of academics. Add more facets to your life, and, in turn, your open-mindedness and ambitiousness will be reflected onto your resume.
