I know with my current ACT there is no chance but if this ACT is as good as i feel a 30+ how do you feel i will look?

Dear westmc9th : An ACT 25 is the three-way equivalent of an SAT 1700. Moving to an ACT 30 is now an SAT score of 1980, say 2000 for argument’s sake. That is scoring 100 point better per section in the cumulative score. Expecting that type of improvement is a very tall order.

As for your curriculum, AP Chemistry and AP English Literature are the only “hard-core” advanced courses that standout in your profile. AP Calculus (AB or BC) would be preferred to AP Statistics; AP US History or AP European would both be preferred to AP Government. AP Biology and AP Physics would both be preferred to AP Environmental Sciences (although here you do have an AP Chemistry offering). Excellent performances on these offerings at your school (meaning a “5”) in the so-called AP “Lite” courses will still not carry as much weight as a “3” or “4” in the major areas. Again, this depends on your school’s curriculum - but recognize the field of competition will be more entrenched in the core AP offerings.

Your profile would be augmented by anything more in terms of leadership roles, sports, music/arts, or contributions via Honor Society. Perhaps more details about LINC would help clarify the picture?

All of this is good food for thought - but still secondary to clearing the hurdle for the standardized tests. Remember at a 30, you are still slightly below the midpoint for Boston College - meaning that you are now stretching to be “average” in the pool. Be sure that you have a series of schools that also more closely match your existing profile details while still stretching for Boston College.

You’ve got great class ranking, you’ve just got to get those scores up. You do have some nice stuff going on here with the dual enrollment at your local college. I wouldn’t worry that much about taking these AP “Lite” classes. I mean if your school has them, consider taking them, but don’t jeopardize your GPA for, say, AP calc if math isn’t your strong point or something. You have good enough ECs, just really focus on the scores.
