I heard that, though I’m international and don’t have any AP’s or IB, I’m still eligible for Harvard or Stanford, nevertheless, my chance decreases somewhat. Another “rumor” claims that admission departments wouldn’t consider it because it isn’t offered by schools in my country. Which one is true?

Come on guys, I’m sure that you’ve helpful ideas.

First, you are a very competitive student for many reasons.
Second, you can only apply Early Decision to ONE place, and of the schools you listed, only Columbia offers ED while Stanford, Princeton and Harvard offer a non-binding variant termed Restrictive (or Single Choice) Early Action.

Third, you are most certainly eligible for admission, as are those doing the Indian system, French system, British system, etc. Admission rates tend to be lower for internationals, at least at top colleges. Admissions committees consider your application in its full context - your school, your background, your family conditions, your personal adversity, etc, and make an evaluation of the quality of person you are and whether or not they feel you will thrive at their college.

And lastly, if you want to go to America, you’ll need a more diverse list of colleges, adding ‘safety’ and ‘match’ schools so you are sure to be admitted somewhere with a high probability. Given your family income though, you should be careful about where you apply in terms of availability of aid, while simultaneously keeping local options open.

I wish you the best!

collegeconscious, thank you very much for your discussion, these tips about getting into college are significant for me.

And in addition, I’ve two or three months before submitting application. Thus, what do you guys think about my EC’s and Community Service? Are they sufficient? If they aren’t, I can improve it by working in a local hospital.
