Are they going to look at my score overall (1610) or the individual scores? I'm applying to UCR, UCI, UCSD, UCSB, and UCLA.

I know I have no hope because of my SAT scores. I just hope they understand that it's just CR. and it's no like I'm majoring in English or anything.

What do you guys think? I can't retake it the SAT's anymore...

I had people in my class with the same stats as you with 1800sat scores. I’ve never seen someone get in with below an 1800. They always made up for it with insane extracurricular s and solid GPAs.

well, your rank is impressive. but i think your sat will hurt you. i know how it must feel to hear this but im being honest. I just got my SAT and my CR killed me as well. UCR - match, UCI-low reach, UCSD-reach/high reach, UCSB-reach, and UCLA-high reach

Retake the SAT anyway and send your new scores as soon as they are available. CR is probably the most important score for colleges (since in college you have a LOT of reading to do - 40-80 pages per class period depending on the class), unless you apply for engineering in which case M is the most important score. But 390 indicates someone who needs remedial reading, which seems impossible for a valedictorian with such a rigorous courseload.

390 doesn’t mesh with your other results.
Is English your second language? If so, instead of retaking the SAT, take the TOEFL. A great showing will indicate that 1° that CR score isn’t really indicative and 2° you’re ELL so they need to cut you some slack. There are sessions basically every week, find one near where you live.
Does that 390 seem odd to you or did you feel the test was really hard? Should you ask for a rescore in case there was a problem?
What other colleges are you applying to?
Could you apply to score-optional colleges?
In addition to UC’s, could you apply to schools with Jan 1-Feb15 deadlines which would allow you to retake the test in December?

Elmira College has a full tuition scholarship for valedictorians. It’s a decent college in New York State? Look into it.

College does have a lot of reading, but it’s not like I did bad on my Writing section too. And I’m Asian, so they’ll take that into consideration & I passed my AP language test with a 3.

The CR wasnt hard, but I don’t think I could do any better.

Are you saying I don’t have any hope with a 390 CR?..like not even hope for UCI?..

Maybe I’ll take the lit test in December and send it in later. I feel like I’ll do better because it won’t have sentence completion. And I did pass ap Lang. So hopefully i will score a 600?

Even a 500 would be okay, but that 390 is just… totally off.
That’s the ONLY problem with your current list of schools (well, find one more safety, but…)
Your solution to take Lit in December is excellent, as long as you can study. Then make sure your counselor highlights the 390 as an anomaly, and the 500 - 600 Lit score as a better reflection of your abilities. If you got a 600, that 390 could be passed off as a fluke or a bad day or whatever. Without that 500+, that score hobbles your otherwise truly excellent application.

When you said “I’m Asian”, do you mean that you’re ELL (an English Language Learner, ie, English wasn’t your first language)? If so, I reiterate my suggestion: take the TOEFL to. Sure, you don’t have too. But it’ll explain away your 390 and it’ll provide context for everything else (positively).

This is the worst part of CC. No one csn chance you based on a short numbers bio. Admissions use so many factors and if you think someone can just say match or reach its going to mislead you.
