I come to ask for my daughter. We live in Taiwan, so we don’t have much ECs or APs here. (International)
SAT new: 1420 (Math 770, R+W 650)
GPA: should be round 3.8-4.0 (not sure)
Class rank: top 15-20%
EC: High school margin band
We are thinking for UNC Chapel Hill undergraduate program related to media/communication. Thanks
I believe that her chances are very good. The high SAT scores,GPA and class rank definitely set her in at the top of the academic margin that Chapel Hill has for its applicants. However, the area where your daughter’s application is going to shine the most is her discussion of life experiences and extracurriculars while living in Taiwan. I know for a fact that Chapel Hill is keen on accepting students from diverse and unique backgrounds. As such, her talking about how Taiwanese culture has influenced her and how she plans to bring that cultural influence to Chapel Hill in the application essay will certainly capture the interest of the admissions board. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the comments and suggestion!!
Is the GPA weighted or unweighted?
I think your daughter’s test scores are in the range, however her class rank is low (although it is very good) especially for being out of state. However…I think being from Taiwan will strongly be in her favor as last year UNC indicated that they wanted to increase their international presence. Good luck!
