So I know chance threads are annoying but I’m really nervous and would appreciate some insight.
Okay so I’m applying for 9th Grade. My top choices are St. Paul’s, Lawrenceville, Deerfield, and Andover. I am not applying for financial aid.
My first choice is St. Paul’s partially because I am a triple legacy (siblings) there.
My SSAT scores for December are
Composite: 97%
Verbal: 94%
Reading: 99%
Quantitative: 84%
My grades for first quarter/first marking period are
Math: 96
Science: 96
ELA: 97
History: 92
Chorus: 94
STEM: 94
My ECs
Competitive swimming
Theater
Community service
Chorus
Robotics
I would probably row crew at boarding school also
I’m from a very under-represented state
I’m in honors pre algebra and algebra 1 is offered at my school but it was chosen randomly. If I get in I will be taking Algebra 1 over the summer.
If anyone knows if the schools except mid semester grades that would be great to know.
The application requests first marking period/ mid semester or semester grades. I won’t have my semester grades by the time I turn them in so that is why I would be sending in quarter grades.
You have no hook but you have siblings and are full pay. The full pay part gives you a huge leg up so I assume you are safely in at St. Paul’s. Which I imagine you know already.
Test scores and grades look good. Doing robotics and community service certainly helps as well as being from an underrepresented state. However, the schools that you listed are always very selective, so there is no guarantee that you will be accepted to any of them, even if you are qualified. I would add some similar schools to that list, such as Choate, Groton, Hotchkiss, Middlesex, and Milton.
@kiki56 You can send in mid-semester or quarter grades with the application if your semester grades are not available yet. However, schools will contact you and require that you submit semester grades after January. Once you have enrolled in a school, they will also request your grades at the end of the school year. Good luck!
Grades look good, and as a varsity swimmer at Deerfield, if swimming is your primamry sport, which you mentioned really isn’t, it could be a hook. But yes, as @Center said, you need more of a hook so make sure you have options.
Swimming is my primary sport but I’m not limiting my school choices based on it. I’m pre-national level if that is any indication of wether swimming is a hook or not. @prepswimmer11
Could you elaborate more on what pre-national means? Swim clubs use lots of terms for their groups. When talking swimming its best to use cuts/standard. I would gather that swims at AAA or better will gain attention at schools where swimming is important.
I recently got injured (but am completely healthy now) so these aren’t extremely up to date but these are the most recent times
100 fly- 1:03.50
200 free-2:10.60
500 free- 5:59.99
Obviously I’m not especially good but I’m not trying to get into schools because of swimming anyways. When I say pre-national I’m referring to my training group and butterfly time which is sectional/zone qualifying. @MAandMEmom
