Chance me!

So the acceptance rate for GT is 25%, and I’m just wondering if I stand a shot. I’m a foreign Hong Kong student with Cali passport, if that helps.

SAT: 1500/1600 (retaking)
SAT 2: physics and maths 2, but haven’t done yet
GPA: school doesn’t use GPA - but it’s a 42/45 on IB

EC:

  • student leader for school house (faction)
  • UNICEF young ambassador
  • one of the Directors in a school-run company
  • in charge of hosting buddy-reading sessions with underprivileged children
  • awardee of Silver in AYP (aka Duke of Edinburgh’s Award)
  • tutored kids maths and science in local tuition center for about two years
  • member of an alleged ‘academy for the talented’ for STEM at #1 domestic university

If you are considered an international student based on your domicile, the acceptance rate is lower than 25% – probably around 10%.

Your schools has to use some kind of grading scale. Where do you think you rank. Would you say you are in the top 1%, 5%, 10% or 25% at your school?

Honestly, you have very little information for a chance me thread but if you are a truly outstanding student in Hong Kong, you probably have a chance. They will look at you in relationship to your peers and not compare your GPA to US students. Are you an average smart kid in Hong Kong or are you a stand out among your peers?
