Chance Me

This should be fun.

Basic Stats: I’m a 9th grade female applying for 10th grade at both Exeter and Andover. Before you ask, I don’t mind only applying to the most selective boarding schools because, should I be rejection, I already like where I am and won’t mind staying there for the remainder of my high school career.

SSAT (Superscored btw):
Verbal- 773. 93rd percentile
Quantitative- 776. 85th percentile
Reading- 725. 90th percentile
Total- 2274 97th-98th percentile (guessing)

Regarding my grades, I haven’t received anything less than a 95% in a class in the past three years. I took precalculus last year and am currently taking calc I right now. Would this be seen as a strength in my application? I know that I’m not the only kid who has taken accelerated math courses in middle school.

ECs:
Student government for 3+ years
Peer tutoring for 3+ years, and I also tutor elementary school kids
Babysitting since I was 10– working relatives paid me to babysit their kids.
Volunteer work with charity events

Essays:
I’m proud of my essays so I’m going to say 10/10.

Recs:
I have a tight bond with all of the people that wrote my letters of recommendation. I trust that their letters did a marvelous job in showing who I was a student.

Interviews:
My best interview was with Exeter. We laughed a lot and most importantly, I was transparent about myself as a person. I enjoyed my Andover interview as well but it wasn’t as great as my Exeter interview.

Strength: URM (black; Caribbean-American)

Weakness: Full aid, from an over-represented state (Bay Stater), not an impressive list of extracurriculars.

Taking calc as a freshman is definitely a strength and not common! I feel like your ECs could be a lot stronger, but being in student government is good. Have you done anything related to sports or arts?

Sorry, I just realized that sounded kind of mean. Let me rephrase that. What have you done that is related to sports or arts that was mentioned in your application?

@ilovechoateeeee Nope. And no, you didn’t sound mean at all.

Oh. Well then I don’t know what to say. Your chances aren’t completely hopeless though! And it’s not like you don’t have any ECs. I feel like you have a better chance of getting into PEA just because they are more academic, or so I heard.

@ilovechoateeeee I have a teacher who said the same thing.
