I applied early action to Umass Amherst as a marketing major, in state.
My gpa is 3.87 / 4, weighted.
SAT 1360.
Took all honors and 6 APs in high school.
I have a bunch of ECs, including sports, theatre, band, and peer leadership/ community service.
Not sure how much weight it holds but I also attended the Massachusetts Girls State program.
What are my chances for admission to the Honors College?
Based on what you wrote, your chances look good. You have the GPA and SAT scores for the business school there. And it hasn’t always been the case, but in recent years, applying EA there has helped, so it should help again this year.
As a current student at UMass I can say that your scores and GPA are on par for getting into the business school, at least compared to my friends in the business school. Best of luck!
Thanks for the feedback!
Although my scores my be on par for the business school, do you know anything about the stats of business students who are also part of CHC?
I know Umass is holistic about the honors college, as they admit people from each major for diversity rather than just the applicants with the highest stats.
Do you know how competitive marketing is a major, in general?
I would say the honors college is going to be a little of a reach. Certainly possible for you, but it will be a little more difficult since you applied as a business major and they get a lot of in-state applications from people with 1500’s and 4.0’s. It also depends on the year, each class will have a different profile. I would say your chances are strong for Isenberg, and you will be competitive for the Honors Program— try and keep in touch with them and let them know you are interested.
My daughter has very similar stats and she did not get into the honors program (she applied as a n English major)
