Chance Me

I was really hoping that wouldn’t be the case with me but, I think it may be. If I am lucky, I will pull off a 3.3 GPA this semester. But, it’s looking like I’ll be around a 3.0. I transfered here with a 3.72 GPA so the admissions office was about right.

I don’t think its the courseload and expectations that is harder. But, more of the anxiety level. I am usually a good test taker but during my first few tests at UT, I honestly was getting a little intimidated on test day and ended up having too many thoughts running through my head during the test to concentrate like; “Will I finish in time?”, “Am I doing the problem correctly?”, ect. I think come next semester I should be a bit more calm as most people are after they assimilate to thier new surroundings.

It was pretty funny though… during my english lit test I had on wednesday, I was brainstorming for my essay. After my brainstorming I decided to look over at my short answer topics and I found a short answer that I wasn’t sure what the answer was, so I sat there and thought about it for a second and I was like, “Oh ya, that was Whitman!” and I just told myself to remember it rather than writing it down (dumb choice). So long story short, I started back on my essay, in which I had to compare two writers. Before I knew it, I had written an essay comparing Emerson to “Whitman” rather than what I had on my brainstorming page which was Emerson to Thoreau. Its also sad at the same time because all of my ideas were from Emerson and Thoreau except that I had swapped Whitman’s name with Thoreau. In all, I am not going to like the grade that I will receive on Monday.

Since I am on this topic of testing… I also wanted to share with you a sad story about my EM 306 (Statics) test. Basically, on my 2nd question (out of 3) I looked up at the clock to find 45min left (out of 1hour 15min). Nervously (affraid to run out of time), I kick myself into overdrive and finish the problem in 15min. Leaving me 30min to do the last problem, a good amount of time. Looking back on it, I should have played it calm and have taken an extra 10min to review my FBD’s on problem #2. Got the test back tuesday and I got a 38/50. I got the first and third problem correct and on the 2nd one I was dinked 12 points for an incorrect FBD, one missing force. Stupid mistake.

I really hope this is temporary or I am in for a long three years.

Honestly I think the transfer GPA thing really just depends on the person. If you study hard and do what you need to do, you will get good results. I transferred to UT with a GPA of 3.5 from a CC. Right now i’m looking at a GPA of 3.91.(I’m gonna get screwed by the +/- GPA because one of the class I think I will end up with an A-.

ampzor: are you taking E 316K? If you are then who is your professor?

Yeah 316k. Kruppa is my professor. I agree, it depends on the person AND the difficulty of the classes being taken. Of course it might be easier to get a 4.0 with liberal arts classes compared to engineering classes. I think that the GPA drop assumption targeted engineering or one of the school’s better programs. At least that was the way it was for A&M.
