Essays- working on right now, they are turning out pretty good.

I’d call it a high reach. Your ACT is passable, but you need to be in the top 10% to have good chances.

Not a reach at all. 33 ACT is in the 75th+ percentile for enrolling freshmen. The GPA could be fine if you’re at a tough school.

Your class rank and GPA are somewhat low but as JHU counselors have said it also depends on the rigor of your classes and each student’s personal situation.

yeah, i have always taken the most rigorous course available and i had family problems my freshman and sophomore year that messed me up a little so i will try to address those in my essay. thanks for the input, anyone else?

i want to but my parents don’t because of financial reasons:/
what do you think RD?

Boy, let me tell u something!! Don’t worry… U will be fine cuz stats aren’t everything !!!

Remember that in Regular Decision you will be competing against 16,000 other applicants who have about the same or better stats. The choice is ultimately yours and you need to discuss it with your parents.

“my parents don’t because of financial reasons”

Do they want to be able to compare financial aid packages?

yes vossron^^

and thanks for the input everyone else

thanks AdamJaz^^ that link was very helpful. Any other inputs? Things i should be doing before admission to boost my chances?

I’m currently a freshman at Hopkins and I got a 33 on my ACT so I think you’ll be fine on that, despite what anyone else says here. I think the real hook for me was the supplement. I don’t think that the supplement for class of 2010 came out yet but for me the prompt was to talk about your community, IN ANY MEDIUM YOU WISH. If this remains to be true for your class, do something that doesn’t involve typing a normal essay. I took a complete risk and mailed them a DVD of a video/photo essay defining my high school as my community. It most likely caught the attention of the committee and was a big plus for me.

Everyone will have lots of awards, leadership positions in clubs and organizations, and great test scores and GPA. But not everyone will have a unique essay. SO GO FOR IT.
