Does the guidance department at your school have the Naviance system … this can give you a much better picture of the odds than a bunch of strangers on the internet.

FYI - at my kids HS … a student with a 3.5 UW GPA and a 2150 SAT …

Bowdoin - does not look good …
no one with a GPA below about 3.55 has been accepted (about 12 rejects)
3 students right at 2150 got in (with higher GPAs) and one 1700 or so SAT got in (recruit?) out of about 25 students

Middlebury - does not look good either
no one with a GPA below about 3.55 has been accepted (about 10 rejects)
1 of about 20 students with SATs 2150 or lower were accepted (it appears to be the same person as above).

At my kid’s HS the odds are bad unless she has a major hook (athletic recruit, etc) … sorry about the not so good news … both schools are terrific; I especially like Bowdoin. This data is only for my kid’s school so seeing your schools would be more relevant

The best advice I would have, is if your daughter is really in love with one of these schools, to apply Early Decision and hope for the best. I had a good friend that applied ED to Middlebury- he had a 3.9 gpa, 32 act, tons of extra curricular activities, and he didn’t wind up getting in. If your daughter is still interested in the small liberal arts schools she should look into Bates. It is still nationally ranked as one of the best liberal arts colleges, but it is a tiny bit easier to get into. best of luck!

^ agreed … there about 30 top LACs in the Northeast (including PA in the Northeast) … some, including Bowdoin and Middlebury, are incredibly tough to get into … there are a bunch that are much more likely for an excellent but not tippy-top student like the OP’s daughter.
