VassarGrad:

The facts are that men are accepted into Vassar at a 35% rate, while it is 20% for females. There can be no other explanation than Vassar is recruiting guys. Nothing wrong with that – MIT and Caltech and most undergrad biz programs recruit females – but to claim gender bias doesn’t exist in Vassar’s admissions?

It looks like he has a chance, then, especially if he applies ED. If he only had a “hook”. Does a recommendation letter from a alumnus (someone who donates $$$ to the school) help his chances?

5 boys, does your child have extenuating circumstances? Is there a good reasons why his grades were low? If so, have your child’s guidance counselor mention this in the rec and maybe have your child mention in a note that he got over the problem.

formyson, don’t have your soon apply ed to wes if he DOESN’T love it like vassar. have him apply there ed I, and then apply to wes if that doesn’t work out right away (deferral, denied). applying ed to any college one loves is worth it.

edit: can he possibly try the act or sat one more time? it might be worth the try.
