Different schools - size, location, cost, etc.
That’s a comfort call.
You can check outcomes at both too.

Will Check. The UCs do not have data past 2017 which makes it hard to have an apple to apple comparison.
So call the department or career center.
I don’t think you’ll have an issue in MIS at either school - or pretty much any other.
You might want to try Data Home | College Scorecard
That website is a little hard to understand. The official #s from school career outcomes report including for the UCs don’t match up the data there. And the sample sizes are low as well. Is there a best practice to interpreting the data on college scorecard.

Since he wants to study a combination of CS/Engg+Business, he is considering the above 4 and visiting Purdue and UCR which are the front runners.
Going into the admission process he wanted to study business and wanted to go OOS but has since changed his mind.
Any feedback on the above options is welcome.
One point to mention is that lot of OOS options can be comparable or cheaper then UCs. So more CA kids have to consider going OOS given what is happening at the UCs.
If ok going OOS, I would choose Purdue amongst the four. People that visited seem to be really be impressed on the Purdue thread.
Thanks. We are visiting this weekend. Let me see if the visit changes his mind.
Do a deep dive while at Purdue about ease of getting the CS and engineering classes your student would be interested in taking. My understanding is that there is a prescribed list of engineering and data analytics classes.
Thanks. We will check it out and also we are aware that some minors like cs are only allowed classes during off-peak sessions.
The purdue visit was very nice. The campus, and the college were very welcoming and helpful in providing the information needed to make decisions. In the end it came down to the major, my son decided the integrated business and engineering is not the right major for him. IBE is a new major at purdue designed for students to take a technical management role after a few years at a entry level.
Thanks for the update. I hope your son has a great experience at the school he chooses!
IBE is two years of general engg and two years of business classes with ability to do a concentration in one area of business. Ultimately he felt going with a engineering degree with a business minor is a more flexible approach. He could work for a few years in an engineering job and see if he wants to pursue an MBA later.
Son decided to commit to UCR to study CS in the engineering school with a business minor. He thinks picking Engineering rather than Business for undergrad allows him more flexibility to do MS or MBA later depending on what he likes.
There were a lot of change that happened in the last year. The whole process started with him wanting to study business(finance, mis) and IU-Kelley, UIUC-Gies, and Wiconsin being the top choices.
Later on he shifted his interest to interdisciplinary programs in Engg/CS and Business. We added the IBE programs at Purdue/Drexel to the list. After visiting purdue he felt studying general engineering + business was not for him and he wanted to study a specific major CS in the engineering school.
Luckily he had applied to CS in a few engineering schools (UCR, RIT, Oregon St) and was able to pick one. He also wanted to stay in-state so we were just left with UCR.
Happy he was able to find something he liked after visiting UCR. Still some mixed feelings that we are missing out on so many good OOS business schools.
Congratulations! UCR engineering and CS is a great choice.
Do well and work a few years and a Kelley (or better ranked) MBA program is available. A former colleague is doing a Kelley MBA online while working so top online MBAs are also a possibility.
You can only go to one school - and he picked a fine one - so don’t have mixed feelings.
Life is a marathon, not a sprint and he will develop further interests and if need be, can seek further schooling later. And he can do a business minor at UCR if he wants…
