Chance.......no Chance......some Chance.....chance?

im a junior from the west coast looking into applying to georgetown

GPA on a 4.0 scale: 3.6
SATs: will take them later (so what would be a good place to start for Gtown?)
APs:
ap enlgih
ap physics

EC:
student government for 3 years
School Treasurer
captain of mock trail team
will be in 4 drama productions when graduating
2 years of jazz, pep, and concert band
I also hold a weekend job in fast food (is this even worth putting?)

Awards
class treasurer for soph and jun. year
lettering in drama, music
member of NHS
member of nat. youth leadership forum (NYLF)

Im also a bilingual hispanic. lets assume also that i have a congressional internship under my belt by the time i graduate and that I can write a good essay. ive got a teacher also who went to gtown who offered to write me a letter if i applied.
the thing about the gpa is that early in hs i was screwing aroung and got way more Bs that i should have. this last year has seen a rise in my grade trend with more As in tougher classes.

it seems like a stretch, but what are the chances

OH and BTW....I put this exact post up earleir and I got like 1 reply out of like 3284734 (well, maybe like out of 100). Any comment would be great help....Thanks!

well it's really tough to put into context without a SAT/ACT. The one quantitative value we have is your GPA, which isn't all that hot.

Definitely put down the weekend job. I know they a)like students who can balance the time commitment b)think people with jobs are less likely to have everything handed to them in life.

which college are you applying to?

A Congressional internship would be a great EC if you can get it.

It looks like you've made an impact on your school, with all your leadership, captain, treasurer etc. But I assure you everyone applying has made an impact on their school. Try to step it up by advancing far in a state or national competition.

YAAAA MOCK TRIAL!!!! After I was accepted EA Gtown sent me a letter encouraging me to join their mock trial team. WOOOO MT=LIFE. What state are you from? people v. palmer?

Where on the west coast? If you're from a less-represented state (ie: not California) that could help. To be honest, Georgetown has a pretty good affirmative action program, so being hispanic will also be a big help. And being bilingual is cool, and Georgetown is big on languages, so it can't hurt! Your GPA is a little bit low, but a steady increasing trend in grades is a good sign. I think a lot of colleges recognize that some freshman/sophomores take some time to acclimate to the rigors of high school work, so they tend to care more about junior and senior year grades. Make sure you get good grades this year, and take the most challenging schedule you can next year (lots of APs and honors classes). Amazing teacher and counselor recommendations and stellar essays can go a long way, so definitely start brainstorming now. As far as SATs, I'd say to be competitive at Georgetown you should at least be in the 2150-2200 range, but then again you can never tell with SATs. Also, if the SATs don't work out too hot for you, then try the ACT. The weekend job is definitely worth putting! Captain of the mock trial team is awesome! Maybe try and get a few more leadership positions in clubs or win some awards in what you're already involved with. The congressional internship would be a HUGE help, so definitely try and get that!

Good luck!

pretty much what everyone else said...especially put down the part-time job!
one little thing: when you say "by graduation", what does that mean? because they're unlikely to see anything that happens after October (EA) or December (RD).

are the APs just for junior year? what does your senior year look like?
and take your SAT/ACT as soon as possible (or as soon as you feel prepped), preferably June. you'll have too much on your plate once senior year starts.

so far, it's promising :)

best of luck with everything!

Im in oregon....so yea, less represented im guessing.

yea im definatley taking AP classes senior year. Ive got tons of extra currics tho that will pile high....is it a good idea to try and balance those with ap cal, ap english, AND ap bio? i might just have a brain hemorrhage halfway through.

and really....im not sure if i wanna give them up because i really like them (yes, MT= life. and no, I did state v campell)

so am i to understand that GPA is not THAT big of a blow, or is it really gonna weigh me down?

Thanks everyone
