Please be honest.

You should add schools like Michigan, Georgia Tech, Boston University, NYU, etc. so you gain acceptances.

The first list you might get shut out they are that competitive.

@ClarinetDad16 would it be possible to expand on this list? I’d like to do more research to make a more informed decision on my safety options. Thank you!

Research schools with acceptance rates above 25% and under 50% of the size desired and in the locations you like. You should be able to find 10-20 schools. Then dig deeper and see which ones make the cut.

Happy hunting.

@ClarinetDad16 Thanks a lot!

You have a decent chance at all of those schools, really. Have you considered Carnegie Mellon? I wouldn’t recommend it as a safety school (nobody should consider it a safety), but it’s on the verge of being a safety for you. I’ve heard it has a great math department.

UMich is nearly as competitive as UCB for OOS students. OP’s test score is within the mid 50 for admission. Their OOS admission rate is at low to mid 20s%.

I was a counselor for the Stanford summer EPGY program. The courses are designed to give students a feel for living on a college campus and to make new friends. Taking EPGY classes doesn’t improve a student’s odds of getting into Stanford. They make that abundantly clear but there were always wealthy parents who thought it would help. Beyond that you have solid credentials for applying to any U.S. college.

Add safeties and schools that you can afford.

There are over 3000 colleges and universities in the US. Pick a college based on your individual likes and needs and then apply. Use the college search and selection tool on this page (left).

The UC’s dont give out merit/need aid to OOS or international students.
UM may also be unaffordable if you are not a resident.

Do I have a chance at Carnegie Mellon?
