Chance?- Stanford/Rice

Hello CC! This is my first time posting ever heh.

~~ I know this is super long, but I'm asking for legitimate advice, so please? :)~~
I would gladly chance you back if you want, haha.

I guess an introduction: I'm going to be a senior this year at a public school in Texas. I am an Asian female. My "dream" school would be Stanford, and a very close second would be Rice. So please chance me? I'm not asking for sympathy, but I do have some legitimate questions about how some things I have done would affect my application as a whole, past the mediocre test scores :P I'll give more details after stats.

Objective:
-SAT I: 2190 (800M, 680CR, 710W) (second try..first try was 2130 -___-)
-ACT: going to take this September
-SAT II: 740 Math II, 710 Chem (I have questions about this..)
-Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
-Rank: 11/652
-AP: World History(5), CompSci (4), Chinese (5), English Lang (5), Chemistry(5), Calc AB (5)

-Work Experience: Boohoo.
-Volunteer: 100+ hours at hospital in HR department as well as playing piano in the lobby :3
-Summer Activities: Did an internship at Texas Chidren's Hospital and wrote part of a case report (will have my name on it)..Then went on a missions trip in Taiwan...

-Income Bracket: > 200,000

Here's the other important details followed by some questions:
Sooo, I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus during the fall/winterish of my sophomore year, but the disease didn't flare again until spring of junior year (Ironically, when I was visiting Ivies on spring break haha). Anyway, I took my SATs and SAT IIs when I was terribly sick and on a bunch of medications (again, not asking for sympathy), but to be honest, I didn't study that much either cause I was super busy/sick. After taking the SAT twice (my CR and W did not budge from the first time...the only thing different about the second time taking it was that I maxed out the math section) I decided that I was completely done with that test. I don't even want to think about it ever again. But I know my score is probably not so safe for the schools I want to go to, so I'm taking a shot at the ACT.

I took the SAT IIs like the weekend before AP tests....and didn't finish the Math II section (I was hoping for an 800). So I'm wondering if I should take it again when I'm considerably healthy and can study (This time I would take Math II and Bio M). However, I want to ask if a score raise would be that significant and worth my time, because I've worked really hard on my ECs and passions..

Other things I have done that are super important to me and my application.
- After I got sick this spring, I finally acknowledged my disease (before I had denied it) and then organized a Lupus Awareness Day at my school where I told everyone to wear purple and sold wristbands lol (raised about $100)
- I'm huge in my passion for music/piano, and so at the end of the year, I performed my junior recital where I gave a free copy of my original album for donations (I compose, but its always been off and on) and raised more than $3000 for the Lupus Foundation of America and my missions trip to Taiwan :)

So yes, this is technically a "chance me" thread, but also to see if taking SAT IIs again would be of significant help or not, keeping in mind all the other stuff I did.

Thank you guys so much, and sorry this was like suuuuuper long -__-
If you have any questions, please ask! And also, if you want more deets on my internship lol. I wanna do neuroscience so it was a neuropsychiatric lupus thing.

bump :frowning: buuuuuuump

Stanford: mid reach
Rice: high match / low reach

Good luck! :)

Make sure you visit Rice and do an interview if you have not already done so.

I think your academics are pretty good. When you write your essay write about your disease and how you pushed through it, definitely a good topic for an essay. Stanford is a reach but you could do it if you score well on the ACT this fall.

Stanford is a reach for everyone who applies.

Probably just as much of a chance as the other people applying to these schools. 50/50 for each of them. Your story is not special and actually bland to be honest. I have read plenty more interesting stories from other applicants applying to these schools.

^That’s not true. While there are going to be better stories out there, yours is definitely not “bland”. If you put your passion into and make it detailed, then it’ll stand out for sure.
I think Stanford is a reach and Rice is mid to low-reach. There wouldn’t a great advantage in taking the SAT IIs for the same subject since their already in the 700s. Some schools require 3 though so maybe take one more? I wish you good luck on your apps!
