Gpa 3.6 weighted ( school doesn’t rank it unweighted)
5 AP’s
Excellent essay
10+ activities
SAT super score 1310 700 math + 610 English
Single sitting 700+ 600 =1300
Should I send my score or not ?
What are my chances to UPitt main campus accounting
What is your unweighetd. School may not “rank” it - but you can figure it out.
4.0 for A, 3.0 for B, etc.
Test - it’s a tough one. The website shows a 1280 to 1410 - so it’s low but not out of the 25-75 range. The math is solid - near 75th percent but the English is below the 25th percent but not by a ton. If it were me, I’d submit it. My guess is it will neither hurt nor help. But others may feel differently.
Given 70% have a weighted GPA of 4.0 or more and 87% a GPA of 3.75 or more, I’d say your odds aren’t great. It’s a reach.
But are you at a private school? Is there something more compelling I’m missing- first gen, etc.?
PS - I think you’d get better answers if you set up your own chance me
Yes first generation student. No public high school
Yeah my math is very good doing now Ap stats and honors Calc. I am very interested in accounting major
It’s great to apply - as long as you make sure you have a school you will get into as well. First gen may help but still a stretch but you never know. Stretches do get in.
What is your budget? If you’re out-of-state for UPitt, then tuition, room & board will be nearly $50k/year, and the only aid you would be likely to receive is any federal funds that you might be eligible for (Pell Grant, loan) which would still leave a significant amount of money as a difference.
In comparison, your in-state schools would likely be much more affordable. I’d look at:
The College of New Jersey
Rutgers-New Brunswick
Rutgers-Camden
Did you graduate from high school in 2021? If so, what have you been doing the last two years?
I would lean towards submitting scores. You’re in the middle 50%. I would say it’s a toss-up for admission. Your GPA is a little low for their averages.
I wouldn’t attend a branch campus but that’s only my opinion. Other posters might have a different opinion or insight.
You could try to transfer to Pitt from community college. They have articulation agreements. Saves money too.
Do some research but accounting has turned into a 5 year degree.
I’m not sure I would pay OOS tuition for an Accounting degree. What are your cheaper options?
Veteran Pitt mom here and Pittsburgher. No one calls the school “UPitt” here in Pittsburgh. It’s just PITT or the University of Pittsburgh
Pitt business accepts a couple hundred students a year.
I believe the Biz school page says they require test scores and high level math.
I would not consider it a safety but would apply if you are truly interested in living in Pittsburgh and it’s in your budget. Your state schools would most likely offer the same degree for cheaper. Pitt does consider demonstrated interest so a campus visit is advised.
If you apply to Rutgers I’d send a score, gpa is on the low side and based on purely anecdotal evidence (my kids’ friends) below a 3.4 and TO were rejected. My daughter got her masters in accounting at Rutgers NB, yes you need an extra year to get the 150 credits to take cpa exams. My daughter had no problems getting an internship with an accounting firm where she is currently working 5 years later (midsized, she absolutely didn’t want big 4 but said it would be been very easy to get an internship/employment with the relationships Rutgers has with companies).
Pitt enrolls about 350 first year business students each year. Pitt’s yield for Class of 2026 was 16.8% per the CDS. If we generously assume a 20% yield for business, Pitt needs to admit 1,750 students to yield 350 matriculants.
Pitt is test optional thru 2025, business majors included (47% of Class of 2026 matriculants submitted an SAT, 16% an ACT, so likely somewhat less than 63% of matriculants submitted scores).
Pitt business recommends ‘Four years of high school math, Including a challenging senior-year math course such as calculus, pre-calculus, or trigonometry.’
