I am planning on transferring to either Phillips Andover or Phillips Exeter Academy for Senior Year and I plan on taking the following AP exams senior year: English language/composition, Human Geography, Psychology, Calculus BC, Statistics. So throughout my high school career I will have taken a total of 14 AP exams.

Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, Williams, Amherst, UChicago, CalTech, Penn, Princeton, Cornell, Michigan, Johns Hopkins,Notre Dame, Virginia, Stanford, Hamilton, Haverford, Tufts, Middlebury…

OP, you have posted chances threads for all these schools, and I’m sure I missed some. What do they have in common that is making you think about them? Swarthmore is so totally different than most of these schools that no one can possibly answer your question.

ETA: Dartmouth, Brown…

Why, do you think that all of the stuff in my resume is not good enough? I needed some back up schools so I kind of was thinking liberal arts.

Well, some of the schools you are looking at are wildly different from others. Cornell and Michigan aren’t very similar to Swarthmore and Haverford. Amherst has an open curriculum while Columbia and UChicago are known for their core curricula. LACs emphasize cooperation and deemphasize grades in favor of “learning for the sake of learning.”

Your resume looks fine so far. You have a 4.0 GPA and rigorous classes. ECs are pretty solid. Without standardized test scores, you can’t really be “chanced.” Swarthmore also says that the first things they read in an application are your “Why Swarthmore” and common app essays. All that can really be said is that it is probably a reach, as it is for most people.

Do you consider Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, and Middlebury to be back-ups? I’d suggest you look a little harder for safeties. Have you visited any of them, and is studying in an LAC actually appealing to you?

Swarthmore isn’t a “backup” school for anybody, and certainly is unlikely to accept an applicant unless he/she demonstrates serious interest in Swarthmore and the fortitude to deal with the academic rigor. Swatties are among the brightest and most intellectually talented students in the country.

ncpathman-I’m sorry I didn’t see your response to me earlier. You are considering using Swarthmore, Amherst & Williams as “backups” because they are liberal arts schools? You are so far off in your understanding of college admissions, I don’t even know what to say. You need to spend far more time investigating these types of schools rather than posting “chances” threads on CC. Do you know that the acceptance rate at these schools is lower than many of the universities you’ve named?

I was never considering lac anyway, i just wanted to get responses for my resume.
