Wow, you have great stats and ECs. Well worth a try to get into Williams! Congrats. Don’t write about your personal background (sob story as you said yourself) in the essay. It is counterproductive. Instead focus on your travels or other experiences working for the NGO (if that is what you like) etc.
Good luck!

Grades are a bit low, trying to get the GPA will help although your senior year 1st quarter grades won’t actually affect the GPA the admissions people see. SAT I and II scores are probably about average for what Williams is going to expect from an applicant. I’m not too sure about your chances though… maybe. Your ECs may help a bit, but I’m not sure if it will allow them to overlook at 3.6… good luck!

looks strong, good luck! An unweighted 3.6 is about what I had, although I went to a very academically competitive high school. If you live close to Williams, consider going to campus and having a personal interview. (If they still do that…they did as of 2001)

Good luck it looks like you have a chance now it all comes down to the essays.

Strength of curriculum is more important at Williams than essays - especially given what is available at your school. Most Williams applicants have two years of AP English and two years of AP Math (either Calc AB and BC or Calc AB and AP Stats). Did you take the SAT I?

You look like a very strong applicant. You’ll need two great essays, one for common app, the other specifically for Williams. It would help you to explain somewhere why Williams is your first choice (if I am right in assuming that it is).
