Chancellor's Scholar

Hi! I was just admitted (EA) for Chemical Engineering, and they told me I could also be a Chancellor’s Scholar and Jame’s Scholar. I haven’t ever heard much about the Chancellor’s Scholar, and before this, U of I was more of a safety school. It’d be great if someone could tell be what being a Chancellor’s Scholar entails.

My son is a sophomore in the College of Business. He is a Chancellor’s Scholar. This link may answer some of your questions. https://www.honors.illinois.edu/Frequently%20Asked%20Questions.shtml

If you would like his perspective I’ll share what I know.

– He loves being able to register for classes before most of his peers. It definitely helps with getting into popular classes.
– He has enjoyed the 3 CHP (Campus Honors Program) courses that he has taken. The small class size and the caliber of students has made them very enjoyable…a nice change of pace from the large intro courses, underclassmen tend to take.
– The program is wonderful on the resume, since it is a selective designation.
– He has liked meeting fellow CHPers and has become good friends with several of them. It also gave him the opportunity to make friends from other colleges within the university.
– CHP is also a good place if you are seeking a mentor…something I feel is very beneficial in one’s college experience. However, since my son has a very involved, older sibling on campus he hasn’t needed it much.
– There is flexibility on how involved you want to be…personally, he has a couple of RSOs (registered student organizations) he has chosen to focus on, so he doesn’t use the CHP resources much.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck with your college decision!

Thank you!

You’re welcome. And congrats on the CHP offer!

@88jm19 I hope you don’t mind, I private messaged you with some questions. Thanks!
