Hi, I’m an international student from Asia, would greatly appreciate any advice as to possible chances at these colleges, what I could do to improve my application, and maybe some match colleges worth applying to?
Intended majors: biochemistry and economics (aiming to get a local scholarship that would want me to double major in science and econs)
Acad:
I do the A-levels, so no GPA or APs.
SAT: 2320 (CR 800 MA 740 WR 780)
SAT II: Going to do chem, math ii and lit this may. aiming for high 700s?
(as an asian, my math score is pretty against the stereotype haha, hoping to prove with my math II score that I can actually do math)
ECs: (I’m pretty identifiable from my ECs, so I’m trying to keep it vague. PM for details.)
-started a community service project, worked with schools and national organisations, given talks and reached out to over 10,000 people, represented country at an international competition (for innovative projects), won international first place. for four years now.
-work with a national-level talent program for young writers, help to organise and plan the program, work with the education board on a weekly basis, year-round. started as a participant 4 years ago, was a student leader for the past 3 years, vice-head last year, might be getting the head position this year
-participated in yale young global scholars program, was the only representative from my country
-some more typical stuff: school journalism, piano, orchestra, etc.
I chose to focus on a few ECs that I really cared about, so yeah I’m a little worried that it looks kinda thin, but I’ve spent a lot of time and effort on them and achieved things that I’m really proud of.
Don’t need any financial aid.
I’m trying to craft my application as the kid from Asia who’s pretty all-rounded, applying for a science major but with a lot of background in writing/humanities. After all the main reason why I hope to study in a US college is to have the chance to study a wide range of fields, and hopefully double major in two different fields.
Will be applying to:
Yale (SCEA)
Harvard (I’m considering just saving the money and not applying since my chances are about 0%)
MIT
Stanford
UCB
UCLA
Duke
JHU
UPenn
Cornell
UMich
Northwestern
My safeties are my local universities, very decent colleges, and I would be happy studying there if I don’t get into any of the above. Would be great if anyone can suggest more match colleges worth applying to!
