Chances affected by being 'underaged?'

I am currently an 8th grader. However, I am much younger than most people in my grade, because I only turned 13 a few weeks ago, after school began. There are some students in my grade who are over a year older than me.

I read somewhere that schools are looking for mature kids (well obviously) and if you are younger than most people applying your chances will be lowered because of your age? Is this true?

I am applying to both day and boarding. Boarding at a school is not a problem for me; I have lived with a relative away from my immediate family for 2 months, and homesickness was not an issue.
I have also gone to an overnight camp for a few weeks and I knew nobody there. After the first day I was fine. (kept on worrying I forgot something lol).

So basically...if my app and things are fine, and I was rejected from a school..could it be because I am too young? Would that be a probable reason?

And btw I will not consider repeating unless I am rejected to all schools this year.

I wouldn’t think twice about the age thing, unless u are a boy and are VERY small for your age. Then it could be an issue for playing sports.

The interview will be the opportunity for the AO’s to assess your maturity.

I know of at least 2 current BS students who were technically full grade younger than their peers when they started BS…they are both doing fine.

I am a year young, and it didn’t affect my acceptances at all! Good luck!

I was younger than you when I applied. I don’t think it’s a big deal on applications, I doubt they even use your age when considering… someone correct me if I’m wrong, though.

I was 13 when I went to BS, and there were quite a few of us in my grade who were that age. We even had a girl who was 12. So don’t worry about it. If you have the grades/ECs/test scores, etc. being a year younger than many of your peers won’t matter.
