chances and how hard is it...

to maintain a 3.6 as an econ major pre-med? To make a long story short, I'm COMPLETELY, and I mean COMPLETELY confused as to what I want to do, and am starting to consider med school again. Since midd is an extremely competitive school, and GPA matters a lot for both med school and to get good jobs in consulting and such, can I get at least a 3.6 as an econ who does pre-med? I'm not too worried about MCAT because I know I'll study really hard and the profs at midd should be good, but its GPA thats making me crap my pants so to speak.

and of course, chance me please:

And you should learn how to write a sentence.

I wouldn't be surprised if gmoney is somehow related to ab_med.

california_love, I think you have a pretty good chance at Midd. Maybe retake the ACT if you think you can get that science score up, as it's sucking down your composite score, though a 30 is still a fine score.

As for going Econ/Pre-Med, I have no idea if that's something that would be viable or even something you would want to (I'll be a freshman in a month, so you can check back with me then). You probably know most top schools don't have a "pre-med" major but have a courses they say might be of interest to someone interested in a medical profession.

As for getting accepted to a top medical school, like law school, most admissions officers don't care what you majored in, and in fact like to have a group of graduate students with diverse undergraduate experiences and interests. I've heard somewhere English major's make the best doctors...

Law/Med school placement- it really comes down to your GPA in a course of study that is challenging, no matter what the major. Standardized testing is also of prime importance. You would be fine focusing on economics while dabbling in the natural sciences, a route you are able to follow at a Liberal Arts School. My mom was an Environmental Studies major at Middlebury-worked hard, took three years off, discovered an interest in Medicine, and ended up at Harvard Med. I'll be doing Environmental Studies and will probably not have any immediate plans after school ends, but I'll probably end up applying to grad school as well. As long as you work hard in any major, get a good GPA (see: hard work, balancing courses in terms of difficulty, which may mean studying econ without inundating yourself with a killer natural science workload) and take advantage of what Middlebury has to offer, you will do fine in grad school placement. Facebooking Middlebury Alums who graduated 5 years ago, you see them ending up at some very, very impressive schools. Middlebury is a tough school, no doubt, but grad schools take that into account. It's not the college you go to that will get you into grad school, it's what you do there. Take care.

hey thanks for the help freefree113. But aside from just pre-med, I also have an interest in business, so would you happen to know anything about Midd's reputation among management consulting firms and such? I'm not too into I-banking, but consulting might be a good place for me to go (hence the major in econ).

Good luck with your future endeavors as well!

I'm linking you the google cached version of this page, because the Middlebury website seems to be studdering a bit...

You should do Model UN to increase your chances and show that you have continued interest in the humanities.

I don't think anyone should listen to gmoney...
