had a 3.3-3.4 gpa in a large public highschool in NY (So about a 88-89) and SAT of 1160/1600 1810/2400
-Top 25% of my graduating class (650+students)
-president of my class for three consecutive years
-National Honor Society Member as well as active in a few other clubs
-Great recomendations from faculty and local church organization
-Lots and lots of community service hours(Given an award by a local legislator senior year as a recognition for community service.)
-Worked part time during junior and senior year.

Side note: during high school I went through some significant personal problems which i strongly believe prevented me from living up to my potential academically…now that I have those behind me, I know that my college grades are much more accurate of my true potential.

Attend a Community College near home I have my gpa up to a 3.85 (will have my associates degree)
-Elected to serve as a Student Government officer for my second year at CC.
-Active member of the political science club (My intended major)
-Work 24-30hours a week part time and continue to volunteer

So first off, could i get into BC as a junior transfer student? Should I explain my high school situation with the admissions people (not as an excuse but more an explanation) and anyone with info about transfer students at BC that can share would be appreciated! ive been a Boston College football fan my whole life (not the reason im applying haha) but it really would be a dream come true to attend next year, Thanks

The acceptance rate for transfers is about 16%-20% with most transfer requests coming from students at four year schools as opposed to community college (exception being the local Bunker Hill CC). The average SAT for transfer acceptance was 1967 according to this report.

i understand my sat’s are 100or so points lower than the average but i am hoping my college gpa makes up for that
and the community college i go to in ny does send a few transfers every year to bc so we have a relationship with the school

i cant be completely positive but i do know one student who was admitted with similiar gpas in both hs and college with slightly better sat’s and far less extra-curriculars

I’m a transfer student at BC right now, and I was admitted for this semester. Honestly, the biggest thing you’re going to want to do is keep in touch with admissions. I had slightly higher high school creds. than you, but not by much. I also had a 3.9 GPA at my previous university, and I got waitlisted. But I know a lot of transfers who had lower credentials than I did that got in immediately. My high school was also not good at all.

You’re going to want to keep in touch with admissions, call with questions, get a meeting with Mary French if you come to campus for a visit. She’s the director of transfer admissions and she remembered me a couple months after meeting because I kept in contact. I also wrote them a letter describing why I felt BC was a good place for me. Hope this helps!

thanks student90…i will defintly take the advice. I visited campus last week, sort of a spur of the moment trip while i was in boston, but i plan on going back up soon and will email admissions so i can formally meet someone there and go on an official tour (i just walked around myself).
