Hi! I’m applying to Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, Choate, Loomis and Colorado Rocky Mountain School as a new sophomore. I’ll try not to overwhelm you with tiny details, so here are my main traits.
Grades:
4.0 weighted GPA, tied for first in class, all 4’s in report card except for a 3.5 in honors language arts.
Advanced Math and Honors Language Arts.
88% on the SSAT (97 vocab, 95 reading, but 50 for math, whoops). This is what I’m worried about the most.
Extracurriculars:
Piano 10 years, got a recommendation from my tutor. Cello 4 years. Part of Music Honors Society. Part of pit-orchestra (the band that plays music for the school musical). Making a video of a cello and piano duet w me performing both parts (though it’d be interesting).
Student Council. Last year I was president, this year I am communications director.
Speech and Debate, joined this year.
Sports:
Snowboarding 4 years. My Choate interviewer LOVED this.
Swim team, joined this year.
Other:
I work at a pho restaurant and got a personal recommendation from my boss.
50 hours of band service.
I have a book review blog and gave my admissions officers the link.
I’ve lived in 5 countries, and I have a tri-citizenship (American, Vietnamese, Irish).
I’m a minority (?). I’m listed as “multiracial”, didn’t specify which races.
I’m reapplying to Exeter and Andover. Went to PEA Summer in 2016.
BUT I don’t have any relatives who are alumni of these schools (parents grew up poor and I told my interviewers about this), and I’m applying for financial aid.
Sorry for such a long post. Seeing who I’m going up against is a bit daunting. However, what do you think my odds are? Also, could any of these be considered “hooks”? Thank you!
