I would appreciate it very much if some of you could tell me what my chances are at Isenberg. I spoke to two counselors at my school today and both of them told me that applying for UMass was a good idea but Isenberg would be a big time reach.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could take the time to review what I have written and let me know whether or not I have a good chance at getting into Isenberg. I am positive that I can write a great essay and my SAT scores and extracurricular activities arent too bad. Would also like to add that my brother is currently enrolled at Isenberg.

The GPA could be a liability; however, I suggest recalculating it with Wood Carving, Child Development, and Beginner’s Guitar left out (usually, it’s only the core classes that count – English/literature, language, science, and math). Not sure what your school’s formula is, but the benefit of losing the C could be worth losing another A, making it higher.

You’ve taken all top-level courses, though, and 2000 is well above UMass Amherst’s average (I’m unfamiliar with the school myself beyond looking up its admissions profile, however, so I can’t say where you’d be for Isenberg in particular). It’s probably a medium match to a low reach, especially with the foreign applicant hook you have going for you.

I am not sure about the admission rate to this specific school at UMass, but being accepted to the school in general, you are a shoe in. Mind telling us more about the specific school?

It seems like you’re solid. Even though your GPA is a bit “low” (I don’t think it is haha) your SAT’s are fantastic, your EC’s are great and the fact that your Bi-lingual with Spanish proficiency is a HUGE attraction. Plus you may be considered a “foreign” student since you weren’t born in the U.S. Take John’s advice about WC/Guitar, you may be surprised about your GPA jump. Overall you seem like a really good candidate for UMass-Amherst; if for some reason you don’t get into Isenberg your first year, you can always just shoot for an “English” major (at Amherst), then schedule your courses around Management. Once you’ve proved yourself, hop over to your dream college! Best of luck! :)

I agree that my chances of getting into UMass is general is high, but Isenberg is know for its selectivity (something like 30% of applicants get accepted). That along with the fact that two counselors told me Isenberg would be a reach scared me a little. The reason I’m asking for people’s opinion here is because the only thing my counselors have seemed to look at is my GPA.
