No, he just has his BS, unless he got it and didnt tell me about it lol...just that he took advantage of a lot of interning (he knew a lot about computers to begin with..he's a networker) and went through the 4 years of college working for various firms, getting certified in stuff like cisco CCNA plus more advanced degrees, then the BS in compsci and business management helped. I mean this guy really worked hard tho.

InsaneMembrane,
my son will be attending UChicago this fall - I assume we will know what major in a year or two.

U of R and Bowdoin both offer many fine programs if you change your major!

i'd go with UR :) better prestige in my opinion , more well known, cant go wrong :P

Personally I think of Bowdoin more highly. Both are great schools though.

yeah, depends tho, like research wise/ the fact that you go into a science...rochester..i understand how bowdoin is a great school, i have a lot of respect for it, but in the academic circle of researchers, UR has much more prestige..

btw, kahn_tim, I think you were searching for this a while back for a possible explanation as to why Rochester's ranking dipped for several consecutive years:

Interesting analysis, no? Definitely not discernable from the US news generalized viewpoint.

Yeah, I agree, I believe that dirty politics in any university can truly destroy a college, especially ranking wise based on stats. A lot of good professors left, etc which could destroy stats of ranking professors on the dreamteam of polysci/etc. Also, Jackson is out - he was the pres. that i heard drove UR to the ground as UR was ranked 25 a little under 10 years ago, behind Washu/uchicago/etc, and it seemed to drop while he was in presidency. The new president, Joel Seligman looks like a really determined character, ready for action in the front of reputation and prestige, usnews-wise.

BTW, thanks for the link :)!!!

I hate to bring this thread back, but what do you think about Wellesley. Do i have a chance their. How is thier comp sci program compared to Bowdoin, and URoch. And do they support double majors.

I read the epinions comments and wonder; if this info is true, what happened to the poli sci dept at U of R? It sounds as if it was depleted of high caliber tenured profs. Has the recent alleged decline at U of R played a role in yield or was the yield similar in the past? They have a decent endowment and seem to be making attempts on improving their image.

I wonder if the peer assessment decrease much the past decade?

Without a doubt, U of R has seen better days, but if we look at the trend in statistics I was told by an adcom that the school is in fact improving. With this new president, the major focuses seem to be, advancement and prestige (and the gaining of this prestige both nationally and internationally). As soon as these strategic plans take action and execution, we will see not only a recooperation of Rochester, but maybe even more advancement/improvement in ranking, etc than we saw 10 years ago.

Nevertheless, Rochester is still an extremely solid school right now, producing great research, successful alumni, and a very nice grad school. I'm just curious to see how great the school will be after it -improves-!

say if someone did gloss over their iss how will it look

not too good. Do I have a chance wellesley?

i know a kid who got rejected/waitlisted from UR but got into Wellesley i believe.

I think you have a good shot at all of those schools, but to be honest, as a student from NJ (right?) you'll be facing a lot of tough competition for a lot of these schools, and while your grades and activities are great, your SATs may be a little low. So just be prepared. Excellent that you have Allegheny and TCNJ on there. You have a shot at all the others, but with college admissions the way they are, it's hard to predict. Oh, and good luck with Bowdoin. There are definitely double majors here, and it is really a cool place to be. I hope everything works out for you.

@khan_t1m is that a good thing or a boad thing?

Anyone else... please, I plan to send all applications out before novemeber

Not that it matters but I have 28 college credits accumulated so far, is it a good start considering if they transfer.
