Chances at Colgate?

My GPA is about a 3.43 UW, but it was because of only one year that brought it down due to family issues which will be the heart of my essay. Following that one semester, my grades shot back up. By the time i apply, my GPA will be about a 3.61 UW.

I know my SAT will be >2100 I dont know what though, and if it's lower I will take it a second time, as well as the ACT in the 30's
I will do well on the SAT II's as well - especially French

What do my chances look like?

i think youre looking pretty solid. but when it comes to college admissions, no one ever knows :-(

Your numbers pretty much slaughter mine. And I got in.

Make sure you write a solid essay that will show the admissions board who you are. That's pretty much all I can say.

Should I consider it a low match? Safety? Match?

I think it could be considered a match IF you can explain yourself well to the adcom

I think you might also want to explain the w/f, D and the C on your transcript. I am not criticizing you, because we all struggle at one point or another, but obviously an admissions officer is going to see those when they look at your application.

Also, you said you would write a phenomenal essay - quite assuming of you - but be sure not to just tell a difficult story, but also show how your grew from it and why you are different now because of that experience. Show, don't tell.

Also, where are you from? How many kids from your hs are currently at Colgate?

Im from NY, and we send quite a few to colgate.
