Chances at Cornell, Penn, Columbia

SAT scores just came out, so I think this will be my final chance me. In order of preference, my list of schools is:

  1. Cornell
  2. Penn
  3. Columbia
  4. Carnegie Mellon
  5. Georgia Tech
  6. UVA
  7. Virginia Tech
  8. James Madison
  9. George Mason

EC’s:

  • FRC (Lead Web Developer): one of the best in the world; manage team of six web developers; building 50 page site and maintaining current one right now. 6-11 hours per week depending on time of year.
  • App Development Club (Co-President, Co-Founder): my main interest; club has about fifteen people since last years seniors are gone; collaborating / teaching the creation of app development; lead a ‘sub-team’ of about ten people in the creation of a 3D game. Game coming out end of November. 5-10 hours per week.
  • TXT.EXE: text adventure game of my own creation; spent about 200 hours on the mobile app, but never published since maintenance was hard; made a website instead.
  • Infoci: contact list application that takes in a contact’s social media handles, phone numbers, and location and compresses them into a user friendly interface with a lot of features not worth getting into right now. One of the main one takes in a user’s location, stores it in a database, and then retrieves it and creates a google map along with directions. Not publishing since database storage in the cloud costs money.
  • VASTS: Spent a week at NASA with other students creating a mission to Mars to give to NASA employees; my team in particular was up at 6AM and in bed at 1AM just to work on this project.
  • Internship: software development startup company
  • I also play JV tennis (3 yrs)
  • Also blogger with about six or seven posts centered around programming. I’ll have about 15 by college apps.

Recommendations: physics teacher (should be good - first student with a 5 on the AP Physics Exam in his class in a few years, if at all, really liked me), Latin teacher (should be great - had her for three years and our relationship is great), computer science teacher (we had the year the CS exam was unrealistically hard, saw how hard I worked for that 5. Also the app dev club sponsor).

Anybody have any advice for me? About half of my EC’s started in 11th grade (everyone told me to be well rounded so I forced myself into meaningless activities that I hated - then I found an article that told me that I should embrace my passion - and I did), so I’m a little concerned they might think that this is all artificial and just for college (when in actuality it’s anything but). Plus I seem like the typical Asian male, so my chances plummet. Is there anything I should do to improve my chances?

@collegeboundprogrammer your chances are good. You are definitely competitive, but of course your top 3 schools are reaches for anyone. The comp sci school at CMU is also a reach for most people. You should be good for the rest.
You should consider doing ED to your first choice. it could boost your chances quite a bit.

If Cornell is your first choice I highly recommend applying early to Cornell. You have a good chance due to your good stats and focused ECs.
