GPA: 3.63 UW
School Dosen't Rank
SAT(old): 1250

In 9th grade I was in all regular classes except for math, and I was in integrated science and my GPA sucked. I worked the summers of my Freshman and Sophomore years to catch up and now I'm full IB after a lot of hard work and sweet talking my consuelor. So, I went from regular cclasses with a low GPA to full IB with a high GPA, but my overall is still somewhat low. I also moved from living with a bi-polar guardian who wasn't on their medication and I moved out of state after I was abonded. Will these things make me stick out in my essays and such? Should I mention them?

EC's:
At my old school
BPA: President
Key Club
Multi-Cultural Club

At my new school:
NHS (Vice President)
SNHS
Young Republicans
Young Democrats (Yes, I'm in both, I like both sides of the coin)
Quiz Bowl team

Here's the list

Also, I have done a summer internship at a law firm, have over 150 hours community service at a hospital, did the Cornell Summer program and I had to skip two years of Spanish because my old school had 6 periods for the whole year, so class of language a year. Here, it's 4x4 so you have to have 6 years. I skipped Spanish 3 and 4 and went straight to IB Spanish 1 and got an A and a B+ in IB Spnaish 2. So, in short, I skipped two years of Spanish and did very welland included it in my persoanl statement. I wrtoe the above post a long time ago so it's in the future tense. My school dosen't rank and I'm Full IB. Freshman year I was in all regular classes and took courses over the summer to be in IB. Thanks for any feedback at all!

If I had applied ED what would my chances have been then? (I'm asking because my next door neigbor, a junior with similar stats is probably applying next year and is strong considering ED, plus I would like to know )

You might want to explain the Young Democrats, and Young Republicans thing. To be honest if I was an Adcom that would raise my eyebrow. Your playing for both teams and not really agreeing with either.

You can probably tell your SAT is a less than competitive and not in Cornell's general range . . . and your ECs are a little lacking, but write good essays and who knows what can happen!

Yeh, it is true Cornell is mostly liberal, but being a Republican I have a vested interest to bring more people to the party. Anyway, he should do what he feels more akin to. Then again writing a short explanation on being involved in both may actually be the ebst course of action.

Neither was I. Seriously, it doesn't really matter what he puts down, so long as it is what he feels best describes him and improves his chances. I juts think he needs to explain it, because Republicans and Democrats are opposites and I mean he's part of both... I'm sure he can clear it up though.

True, you don't really see many applicants get in to the Ivies with those scores unless they are athletes. No offense, but that is the way it is. We had a kid get into Pton last year with a 1200, but he was a recruited athlete. Maybe there is time for him to re-take the SATs? Or perhaps try the ACTs...

Even with the story it is a long shot. Everyone has a long shot at the Ivies and Top-Tier schools, but if you have a story tell it!

I think you're the first CC'er to but down BPA as an EC! Does anyone else know what BPA is? Well either way you're awesome for that and they should definitely accept you.

Pugachev! Yes, that is one of the greatest sn I've seen in awhile. Maybe because some of my APEuro stories surrounding him make it even better... lol Sorry, just wanted to comment on that.
