Anyone?

Congratulations on your achievements!
Actually, your SAT is totally fine. If you get rejected, it would be because of something else we don’t know. Ethnicity can be a drawback :frowning: if you are an East Asian, which you are…

The competition is stiffer for international student, but I think you are a very worthy applicant to all those schools.

Do you have a back up plan? Also are you applying for FA?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I have backups, I’m applying for FA, and I’m not international (I have a Chinese passport but I’m a US Permanent Resident and I attend high school in California). Just a quick note, both of my parents were postdoc research scientists at UChicago’s Argonne National Lab.

Good!!!
Uchicago is a tough, weird nut but your parents having used to work there may be a boost, Did you mention that?

Yeah I did, I just got 36 on the October ACT!

tbh, I am just amazed that when you said that you got 2290, you claimed that’s a low standardized test score. I am an Asian myself and compared to other Asians I’ve met in my life, you are the most competitive one and the most “Asian” ever based on how you said that you are not happy with a 2250 or even a 2290. You don’t know how people would die for these scores, including Asians. Then you ignored everybody who asked you to be done with standardized testing and took your chances at the ACT and said 35 is a terrible score. I guess a 2400 or a 36 is the only thing that makes you happy and nothing else, anything below that is pretty much death. (Sorry if this offended you in anyway, I didn’t mean to offend you.) You really should have applied to HYP and not Dartmouth. You really had a shot at HYP based on your merits and stats. But one thing that makes me feel suspicious is that how are you the editor-in-chief of the school paper and winning awards in journalism when you have B’s in English? Were you born in here and if not, when did you move here? Anyways, I pretty much see you in Dartmouth, if not, I would be very suprised. I know I sounded like I am angry and pissed, but I am just saying that you really should have applied to HYP.

I was born in China and moved here when I was 4. Literature analysis is not my strength nor is it my interest. I prefer to write news articles because I have a rather cut-and-dry personality. I don’t think I would have been competitive at HYP there are IMO winners and the like applying there … have nothing of the sort.

^Having IMO or international award definitely helps, but it’s not a “requirement”
Once you have significant and acknowledged awards/accomplishments, even top tier schools will consider you…some of my friends had no international level award, but they topped in their fields, and got in schools like Harvard and Bryn Mawr.

Caltech is so tough that even with your amazing stats it’s hard to know. I would think that you would get into at least one Ivy, UChicago idk because they’re so weird with what they look for.

Ridiculous.

I applied to Dartmouth mainly because of its consistent nationwide #1 ranking for teaching. To me, that’s really important as I’ve dealt with plenty of sub-par teachers in high school and don’t want any more.

bump

harvard should be your safety

Unless your essays are disgustingly bad (INCREDIBLY unlikely, especially with the NSPA thing), you’re pretty much guaranteed an in to almost every school!

Dartmouth ED - Accepted!!!
Caltech EA - Accepted!!!
UChicago EA - Accepted!!!
Ivies - Accepted/Waitlisted. You never know with these crapshoot schools

Please chance me back?
<a href=“CHANCE ME: Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, etc. (I will chance you back) - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1708065-chance-me-harvard-carnegie-mellon-etc-i-will-chance-you-back-p1.html</a></p>

When you say things about sub par teachers, there will be always sub par professors in any colleges. Stop worrying. You will get in. Besides, chance threads are not that accurate anyways. Let me just restate that you should have applied SCEA HYP. You made the applicant pool so competitive as if it is not competitive enough already.

Putting this back up

You shouldn’t worry since you can’t really do much about it anymore. You handed your app in already and chance threads are not that accurate so you shouldn’t rely on it and asking for chances.

You seem really superficial. If 2290 isn’t good to you, then simply, you’re not good enough for any of the colleges you applied to.

I was accepted Dartmouth ED! Thanks for the chances guys, it was a fun run, and I’m blessed to have been picked by an Ivy in this stressful app season.
