That’s a tough one. Your standardized test scores are, as you know, really, really low for D. What is the relative rigor of your courseload like? Have you taken the most challenging courses available at your schools? You say your father is a lawyer…what was your school/community like before you transferred to the boarding school? The question may be whether your app convinces the adcom that you can do the work at D.

Since you didn’t mention it, is it safe to assume that you haven’t participated in any of the fly-in events D runs for Native American students?

My course-load is fairly rigorous. I have taken all the honors classes my school has to offer. My school is not AP certified; however, they do partake in a program at the local vo-tech that offers AP classes for area students for calculous, chemistry, and physics. The hang up is that you have to take all of the courses. Although I have been in honors math classes since the fifth grade I still have trouble with it, so the calculous made me shy away in fear that I would not do well it all. Instead of taking the AP program, I opted to take trigonometry at my school. I’m taking honors physics and honors chemistry this term.
My old hometown is infiltrated with significant amounts poverty and drug use because it houses the state penitentiary. The penitentiary brings a lot of roughness to the town. The school I attended was a large, public school with various types of students and tended to be pretty rough.

I did not participate in any fly-in events because I did not become interested in Dartmouth until after they were all over. However, I did attend College Horizons where I met with various college reps (and sat in on the Dartmouth informational session).

Where else have you applied?

Stanford, Yale, Cornell, Harvard, Brown, Bowdoin, Swarthmore, and Vassar. I went to the Bowdoin and Swarthmore fly-in programs.

Bowdoin is test-optional, right? That is definitely a good thing for you.

Frankly, I’m surprised that you are applying only to reach schools. Does this reflect a belief that your URM status will definitely outweigh your test scores? Did you apply to any safeties?

I applied to a local University as a fall-back.

As a native american female, you could get into this school with triple digit SATs and multiple felonies.

^^I hope you’re wrong.
