Okay, but engineering is my line of expertise, not social justice. So you’ll have to excuse my ignorance of the subject, but I am merely speaking based on experience. I don’t know too many people who thinks that is racist, but you’re welcome to believe whatever you want. I’m not going to try to change your mind.
In the meantime, the only thing I can do at this point is keep my fingers crossed and hope that the admission officers are in a good mood the day they look at my app.
I understand that you don’t mean anything harmful by it, but even stereotypes rooted in positive traits can have far reaching consequences. Just because your friends have similar biases doesn’t mean that it’s okay or that it isn’t stereotyping.
Most schools, including some on your list, require some sort of general education requirement because their purpose above all else is to teach you how to think (and think critically). Just because your major is engineering doesn’t mean you should willfully remain ignorant about social issues facing our society today. You’re welcome to form your own opinions on how we should address issues, which issues are most important to you, etc. but not bothering to educate yourself and dismissing issues is what I’m questioning.
If you would like to remain ignorant then of course that’s your prerogative, but as a student attending college in the US and as a human of the world as a whole the responsible thing to do is to educate yourself about key issues. Whether or not they align with engineering is irrelevant.
Lagging, I am very well aware of what is going on around. I can tell you’re not in any STEM-related field because you would not say anything like you just did if you were. Just because I do not believe in political correctness or believe in the lies spewed by the media 24/7, such as how Trump is a racist, white privilege, and war on women, does not mean I am ignorant of what is going on around me. I do think critically and that is why I think differently from what most of my peers who are brainwashed believe. However, I prefer sticking to what is relevant and what will make me money in my future.
Oh my dear sweet mother of god
This thread has dissolved to pointless, trite, and frankly disparaging name-calling
And before you make accusations
No, I am NOT a STEM major
Or even in college
Can this be closed? Nobody is getting any use out of it
@thewizekid Going to college isn’t about making money, it’s about happiness. From what it sounds like, you’re simply going to a top college to be hired at some big company and work long hours, for what? Money? That’s not the way to go through life. The co-founders of Google went to the University of Maryland and University of Michigan. Steve Jobs went to Reed College. Warran Buffet went to University of Nebraska. The list goes on and on. You don’t have to go to an uber competitive school and get in simply on your disability, when you can go to a good match school that’ll still get you hired. A 4.0 at community college doesn’t mean you’ll have a 4.0 at an Ivy, or even a 3.0.
@awesomepolyglot You can message “fallenchemist” and complain to him on why he chose not to delete this thread. I personally tried to get this thread deleted myself since the thread isn’t going anywhere at this point like @allison1225 said.
@allison1225 I have friends who go to UC Berkeley and they said that I would do great. I mean, some of them say the school isn’t even that hard. Granted she is korean and isn’t majoring in any STEM field (her father is a smart man who I am trying to do business with since he has a pHD in Physics and I admire those with pHD’s in Physics since I will admit that I don’t have the intellect to make it that far myself). However, I do like the area and I feel like I would do better there than I would in say, University of South Florida where the area is not as good as in Berkeley.
Even though the names you mentioned are guys who are the wealthiest, but there is a higher chance that I will get a better job when I have a degree from UC Berkeley compared to say, USF, UCF, UMD, or University of Kentucky. Plus, like I Said, I really like the area and I believe I can be a good fit there. It just really sucks that they have to have such a low acceptance rate though. It used to be much higher in the good ol’ days.
@thewizekid If you believe you can get in and succeed, there’s nothing stopping you from applying, and the worst they can say is “no”, so there’s nothing to lose. Best of luck!
