As compared to Stanford under 10 and overall admittance under 10% for Harvard.

kiaralnNYC, these are my actual scores, not predicitions. I know it seems hard to believe but my school is extremely competitive. and overall i really messed up my freshmen year but brought my grades up soph and junior year. freshmen year i was set back because of a spinal cord surgery and it really affected me. those are 100% my honest scores.

but what do you think i should add to my resume?

To be honest, adding anything to your resume at this point will look a little suspicious to colleges of such a high caliber, as if you are adding things just for the sake of adding them. Instead, you should focus on doing the things you’re currently doing, and maybe even compete in a few more math competitions to show your interest in math. Also, I agree with the other posters in the sense that you should seriously consider applying to MIT.

i developed an app for my school as well, i didnt include it on my resume because the app didnt do too well with the people in my school. but i still made an app for my school.

and does USAMO really make that much of a difference in terms of MIT acceptance?

In general, when applying to schools known for certain subject specialties, it is always helpful to have competitions like USAMO that are internationally recognized as some of the best competitions in the world. So yes, be sure to include that in your application, because it will help with acceptance to MIT. Of course, nothing will get someone admitted to a college or university specifically, but it will definitely help someone’s application to have USAMO listed. Also to your first post, you could include the app development if you have room, because it shows your interest in coding and software, and kind of goes with your general theme of math and science.

thanks i know i didnt qualify for IMO, but im wondering, if someone did qualify for IMO are they pretty much set for MIT?

Nobody’s ever “set for MIT,” even the highest achievers :(

for future reference (and for surplus knowledge) what should i have done differently with my resume? since a number of people have called it bland, dull, ordinary etc.

Due to the high propensity for CCers to expect a lot from other CCers, everyone gets posts from people saying that they don’t have [insert grades, SATs/ACTs, SAT IIs here], [insert “good” EC here], [insert international award here], and [insert hook here]. To be quite frank, your stats are excellent, and your GPA, contrary to what other posters have said, is good too. Obviously there are Ivy League applicants with 4.0 GPAs, but the college process is much more than just the GPA. Colleges are admitting applicants, not numbers. At some point, all of the good stats are rounding errors, and then colleges have to determine which applicants they will admit based on the intangibles, like essays, recommendations, and ECs. Like I said, they’re admitting people, not numbers. SO, it is hard to determine what you could have done differently with your resume, as you do not know if you have been admitted or not yet. In addition, high school is about having fun exploring new fields of interest, activities, and human connections. It’s not all about the grades. People can say that you could’ve gotten your grades up, but then you might not have had the time to compete in USAMO or community service. And by the way, CCers have super high expectations for posters, so try to take everything people say with a grain of salt, because no one knows what is going to get someone in, just because CC posters tell you that you have a “bland” resume. Yes, at some point, all of those 800s and 4.0s do seem quite dull, don’t they? And maybe getting a 3.8 is a bit more interesting to the Ivy League admissions officer.

Wow this post was longer than I thought it would be. Lol sorry about that, hope this helps!

USAMO is huge for MIT. I think they’re the only college that has amc scores on their app already. I’ve heard from multiple sites that making usamo or usajmo makes your shot at mit 50%. Honestlyh I think you’d make mit if you applied to it.

Hey guys sorry about the late reply, but I think I’m going to apply Early Decision to UPenn for Economics and Computer Science. I am going to take MIT into account if I’m deferred/rejected and was wondering if you guys agree with my call. Thanks again for all the help!
