Chances at Harvard?

Hey everyone, can you check out how my chances are at getting into Harvard. I understand its a long shot, but some advice and tips would be awesome. This is a long post so bear with me haha.

So the first thing to get across is that in my admissions I want to emphasize my spike/narrative in Political Science/International relations.

Basic Info
Ethnicity: Hispanic/Sephardi Jew
State: New Mexico
Family: My Dad has an Associates in Technology

I go to a small charter school, in addition, I do full-time college at my local community college (I might apply for the University of New Mexico for more course variety)

Highschool Grade: 11th
HS GPA: 4.8 unweighted (4.0 weighted)
Class Rank: 1
College Grade: Sophomore
College GPA: 4.0

AP Courses/Courses of Importance

  • Note that New Mexico is not a wealthy state, so our schools can only afford so much, especially the charter schools)

AP Biology (probably not taking the exam)
AP Language
AP Government
AP Comparative Government
AP Macroeconomics
Honors International Relations
Honors Media and Politics

College Courses

  • I will complete my Associates in Political science before senior year in August 2018. I’ve taken a lot of prerequisites so I will just note the courses of importance. After I finish my degree I will probably take some 3000 level courses in political science.

So that’s all, sorry if it is really busy. From what I understand the ivies look for interesting applicants from less known places and with less prestige/wealth, just to see something a little different. Also, they do take individual’s situations into much consideration so it may or may not impact my application. You’ve made it this far, woohoo, leave some advice below!

Thank you!

Jojodelno, I think you should definitely apply. But it seems you have not been doing college courses for high school, but also for an associate’s degree. I honestly don’t know how that impacts your application: are you a transfer? You might want to stick to dual enrollment and using your college credits for high school or advanced standing, rather than a degree. I really don’t know and assume you are being advised.

Otherwise yeah, go for it, but don’t get fixed on any one school. Good luck!
