What's your class rank? Where are you from? Do you plan to take the ACT again?

I'm from Maine. Male. I took the ACT this past Saturday but obviously do not have results. I dont think I improved by much.
Our school does not rank

Thanks

Being from Maine should help, it is an under represented state at Mac and they are big on trying to get students from all 50 states. Don't most kids from Maine go to Colby, Bates or Bowdoin :) Honestly your ACT score is below the average at Mac, last year the average was a 31, and your EC's are much like every Mac students. You have a shot but I would make sure to have a Plan B in place, just in case. If you don't need Financial Aid that would probably be a boost as well but, who knows, maybe there will be fewer applicants based on the economic climate and Mac being so outrageously expensive! Keep your grades up, take honors and AP classes and write a killer essay - good luck!

I was thinking of just sending in my SAT scores, not ACT. What do you think?

THanks

This is so hard when you know someone really wants to attend. I do not know if it will make a difference submitting SAT scores. The MAC class of 2012 had mean scores on the SAT reading of 720 and Math 690. The mean SAT1CR + M was a 1410. Don't get too discouraged, I know several Mac students who had 28s on their ACTs remember these are only the average. Maybe you improved your ACT score when you took it last week.

You do not mention your high school course load. Are you taking honors and AP classes if offered?

Good Luck!

I'm guessing that at Mac (and most other SLACs) applicants who don't require aid will get a boost in admissions. Affirmative action for children of millionaires is not fair, but here in RealityLand every college just lost a lot of money. Faculty still have to be paid, buildings still have to be heated.
