Chances at NW, UChicago, UCLA?

<p>I'm an Asian girl in a prestigious public highschool</p>

<p>GPA unweight: 3.57
GPA weighted: 3.98
SAT: 2310 (M: 800 W: 790 CR: 720)
SAT II: IIC (800), Bio (780), Chem (780), Korean (780), Lit (740), US History (760)
courses for senior year:
- AP US Govt/Econ
- AP English
- AP SPanish
- Physics
- AP Chem
- Band
- Calculus (at community college)</p>

<p>Extracurricular:
- winner of concerto competition (2 times)
- winner of "young artists competition"
- second place at a state competition & first for branch for solo
- second place at state competition & first for branch for ensemble
- second place for bach competition
****i play flute, btw.
- founder of a flute trio (recognized by miyazawa flutes through young artists competition) that fundraises for causes (katrina, human traf, etc) & teach music and how to play instruments to a group of hispanic kids at a local church (through money earned by benefit concerts, other fundrasing activities)
- president of asian american leadership (at school)
- secretary of asian american women's coalition (outside school, i'm one of few highschool students there)
- interning for a councilmember in my city (i think he'll write my rec)</p>

<p>I'm thinking of majoring for flute & something else (related to science)
& i had a C in biology in freshman year</p>

<p>i think my GPA's too low; i'm not even sure if i'm in the top 25% in our school.</p>

<p>Chance for Northwestern/Uchicago/UCLA/NYU?</p>

<p>leeyuri:</p>

<p>Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Match</p>

<p>def in at NW and UChicago</p>

<p>so in the end; does EC cover up GPA? :(</p>

<p>Your weighted GPA is low. Mine was higher (4.17)and I got rejected from U of C when I applied a few years ago. You do have high scoes so maybe you should take (and ace) a few more honors/AP courses to bring up the GPA. Then you should get into all of htem.</p>

<p>For U of C, your uncommon essays will be the determinant.</p>

<p>but i'm already a junior. how can i raise my gpa more if my senior year's first semester's grades won't be included on my transcript?</p>

<p>college courses aren't included on our highschool's transcript.
but will the colleges include the grade when they total up the gpa?</p>

<p>btw, are my chances at johns hopkins slim?</p>

<p>For UCLA, you have to list all the letter grades (exclude + and -) on your application. And yes, for UCLA senior grades do not count at all. (just make sure you maintain a 3.0 unweighted after they accept you)</p>

<p>I think UCLA is a slight reach but there is a good chance, you should also apply to Cal just incase. I had around the same GPA as you but lower sat and less awards, and I got rejected by UCLA but got into Cal.</p>
