Chances at Stanford and MIT

I'm a junior and I would just like to know what you think of my chances at Stanford and MIT. Based on my scores I think that I have a decent chance and I am likely to apply to one of them. Overall, I'm pretty relaxed with the whole college admissions process, but I'm curious as to where I stand. Please provide honest feedback.

White male from the Northeast.

One of the top 50 publics in the country. Many students go to selective colleges (ex - about 20 students/year to ivies).

SAT: 2360 (760 CR, 800 M, 800 W) - took it once

SAT II: 800 Physics, 790 Math 2, ??? US History

Unweighted GPA: 97.something
-My school does not rank, but I would definitely be top few out of about 220.

APs: Physics B (9) - 5, Calc AB (10) - 5
-This year I am taking Calc BC, Bio, US History, and Eng. Language
-Next year I am taking a lot including Physics C (and a beyond-BC Calc night class at another high school).

ECs (brief summary): Captain of the Quizbowl Team as junior (member all years), Math Team officer, Model Congress, JV Sports, Community Service involving helping immigrants with English, guitar, and Science Research class including numerous fairs and such.

Awards:
-First Place in a regional science fair.
-Silver Medal at a county math fair.
-Second Place in a national essay contest.
-Second Place at state level of Nat'l Geographic Bee.
-Fourth Place at county math tournament as sophomore.

-Gavel award at columbia model congress
-Likely to be NM Semifinalist and further
-some others

Summers:

06 - Astrophysics Research as part of the Simons Fellowship program at Stony Brook University.

Okay so it's getting a little long. I'll spare the people reading this. So, what do you think of Stanford and MIT, maybe Stanford EA?

ur stats are pretty close to mine.

good chances man.

Thanks for the feedback.

stanford ur 1st choice or mit?

I think I will apply to Stanford early action.

I visited in April and it seemed like a great place. I want a big research university, but I also love bigtime sports as I am a college football fan. Stanford just seemed to have an awesome atmosphere.

Anyone else?

Bump Bump ..

I think the reason people aren't responding is because you have all the goods to get in. Killer GPA at a competitive school, nice SAT's, good EC's & awards. Apply and just see how it goes - you have a great shot and you will probably be accepted to at least one of HYPSM, but it is hard to predict with any form of confidence that you will be accepted at any particular one.

well spoken

I bet you already know that you have a very good chance at either school.

One bit of advice: you should still work your ass off on the Stanford essays. Stanford seems to care a lot about the essays. Essays allow the admissions officers to see if you are an interesting person, something they seem to care a lot about. Don't think that your stats alone will get you in. I know at my high school about 5% of the graduating class goes to Stanford each year. A lot of people say that Stanford admissions seems less predictable (even "random") than other colleges. I'm almost certain that the difference is whether or not students seem like interesting people through their essays.

Are you planning on being a physics major? Physics majors are cool.

i have stats pretty similar to yours, except with a few more leadership roles (im an active member of my community! >_<)

got into stanford and MIT, but i think that MIT was because of my essays.

going to stanford

but yeah.

yea stanford owns man.

only bad thing is that its webserver sucks so much.

Marlgirl - Yes, I am likely to become a physics major. If not physics then engineering or mathematics.

Yeah, of course I'll put a lot of thought into my essays.

As of now I think I'm leaning towards Stanford EA. It's far from where I live but I visited and just loved the atmosphere. Plus, I LOVE college football and Stanford is one of the few really good schools with a good team.
