Chances at Stanford and others for a first gen asian?

amen weasel

rocket, I can assure you that I participate in my activities because I enjoy them, not for college admissions purposes. I do other things with my free time, but they aren't anything special that I'd put in a college application.

Yeah...I believe you pinkytolip. Though I can understand rocketDA being a bit skeptical, what with all the crazy college admissions frenzied people here on CC. You seem genuine and sincere, and I think you would like it very much at Harvey Mudd (and be challenged as well!) - just make sure to be honest and sincere in your essays.

And I'll add that my own non-math/science EC's were about as much as yours (while my math/science EC's were signficantly less than yours!), and HMC still thought I was good enough to get in.

You call that average?
Boy, you have problems.

I would EA to MIT just cuz its MIT. and don't even apply to caltech (unless you want to: 75% of their class is male). stanford would probably be a shoe for you if u don't get in MIT early, but im pretty sure you will.

If not MIT, ED to Princeton.

If you truly do it because you love it, that is cool. There is no way of really knowing from this side of the cyber world whether you are for real. If you are, good for you.

I generally don't sugar-coat these types of things. You must use your own judgement to decide whether to listen to my personal opinion.

Mudd is a great place. I just want to make sure you feel like there is more to life than academics...because that is exactly what ground HMC stands on.

This person is by no means average. Good luck in the college game.

Well I'm going to HMC and I played no sports and only played in orchestra up until 9th grade. My ECs were all academic, with a little community service. I don't think people are denied from HMC for not having those ECs.

I think the OP is fine. People do find passion in academic clubs, you know. I've seen some kids more dedicated at science olympiad than any sport.

he'll do fine against the RSI kids given that there are only 54 or so domestic ones. it's rather pointless to compare him against such a small group given that the majority of the rsi kids end up matriculating at harvard or mit; i think he would be a great fit for berkley, which is an awesome college.
