Chances at top choices

Hey everyone, I would be enthralled if you would chance me at the following schools (these are in no particular order of desire):
U of Chicago
Wash. U St. Louis
Swarthmore
U of Michigan
Rice

I'm considering U of M more of a safety. I'm an in state applicant and feel like I fit their profile pretty well.

Here are my Stats:

School is public, quite large, and not very competitive (rarely sends grads to top schools)

GPA: 3.93 UW (I have no idea what it is weighted)

Class Rank: 18/560 (Top 4%)

SAT:
Math: 590 (simply stunning, I know)
CR: 640
Writing: 790 (11 on Essay)
Composite: 2020
I'll be retaking in the fall

ACT: 30 Composite (2nd time taking)
May also retake in the fall

Course Load: Heaviest offered, almost entirely honors/AP
Honors English 9-11
Advanced Math 10-11
AP Euro
AP Chemistry
4 Years of French

Next Year:
AP Statistics
AP Calculus AB
AP English

ECs:

NHS member
2 Years of Class Council Serving as Treasurer and Representative
2 Years Quiz Bowl (3 Next Year), served as captain this year
4 Years Varsity Tennis (Captain Next Year)
Very active in church youth group

Volunteer Work:

Lots of stuff through church like:

Thanksgiving Houses for the Homeless
Food Drives
Spent 10 days last summer in the Sandtown area of Baltimore working to rebuild houses with Habitat for Humanity
Will have lots of additional stuff this coming year through church/NHS etc.

Hook: Nationally Ranked Tennis Player
Very Good Possibility of being recruited by the schools above (except for UMich and Rice) and many other Division 2/Division 3 schools

I know theres some stuff I'm forgetting...

Anyway, I would appreciate being chanced at the above schools and any other suggestions of schools that you guys may have. Thanks in advance.

Well young man, I have a friend whose profile looks surprisingly like yours. Except he'll be taking Calc BC next year.

Anyway, it looks like you have a propitiously fantastic opportunity to score big on each of the schools you listed. As you know, you'll probably get into UM. As for the others:

Swarthmore: I'm sure you could have guessed, but adcoms will not take too well with that SAT math score. You probably just had a bad day, but I agree with your taking the test again. If you bring the math score up 100-150 points and your CR just a tad, your superscore may very well end up being in the 2200s. Your ECs are good, and being a nationally ranked tennis player certainly helps a lot. Maybe we can play some time. I'll own your face.

Wash U: Craphsoot. I had a friend with a 2200, class president, state champion in speech, numerous other leadership positions in ECs, NMS, get waitlisted at Wash U (eventual acceptance). We'll just have to see.

Chicago: Get creative with your essays, set yourself apart, and Chicago will eat you up.

Rice: Who wants to go to Texas? Psh.

Of course, you could start a science project this summer, win Siemens, then you'll no doubt get into these schools. For the time being, keep hitting the books, and those tennis balls. You have a great shot (literally and figuratively).

Yea lobgent you're right. I meant Calc BC. Now i feel like a fool. Oh well. I appreciate the feedback.

You reminded me. I'm the dark horse to win Siemens this year...

if you're being recruited, then you'll be in somewhere on that list :)

thanks fast27

Up a little early there, phoenix?

lobgent u r a troll

At least I consistently use proper Anglais, nationally ranked tennis boy.

See you later.

just another note: I'm intendong to major in business/econ, so I would be open to suggestions for any top-notch schools that are good in that area. I would also appreciate being chanced by someone other than lobgent here. Thanks a lot.

Well, I think that if you express your passion for business/econ, you'll have a great shot anywhere you apply to.

In fact, try applying to Berkeley.

And MIT

And Stanford

And Yale

And Harvard, but maybe you should wait until grad school.

bump
sorry, but I would really like to be chanced and I am open to suggestions of other really good business/econ schools. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

UMich isn't a safety for you, but a good match. I'd suggest finding a real safety - i.e. another state school in Michigan.

Pretty good stats overall. Test scores are too low for Rice right now - they focus on them pretty strongly. WashU is a crapshoot, as said. Same as Rice a/b Swat...higher test scores. Decent chances at Chicago. So far the only thing holding you down a bit seems to be test scores, so maybe retry the ACT. The midrange at several of those schools (Chicago, Rice, WUSTL) is VERY high, meaning most kids that get in / attend have top notch scores.

thanks for the input brand 182. I think just about every other michigan school should be a safe bet. Do you have any other good business/econ suggestions that are highly rated and seem like a good match? Open to suggestions from any and all. Thanks.

I agree. UMich is just getting kinda crazy to the point that 1400 SATs/good GPAs/in-state kids were getting waitlisted last year - not a safety then. As for other schools, if you've got Rice on your list I'm assuming you don't mind Texas? UT-Austin McCombs School of Business is top notch, though tough for OOS students. Still, it may be worth a shot. I'd also consider:

UNC Chapel Hill
Virginia
Georgetown McDonough School of Business

UNC and Virginia allow you to transfer into the business school by your junior year, so you'd only have to apply to the main college which isn't so tough. The same could be said for UT - you could apply to the college, get good grades for a year, and internally transfer to McCombs, which is quite easy to do.
