I started a nonprofit charity organization and I was wondering if this could significantly boost my chances of getting into a top tier college? My stats are quite average ( SAT-1520, UWgpa- 3.75, Wgpa-4.4, etc) and my extracurriculars are good but very scattered (singing, dancing, internships, clubs, etc). Please let me know if this nonprofit org can make me stand out and get into colleges such as UCBerkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, etc. ( compsci major)
Please let me know! Thanks!
Well…SAT could be higher, GPA is pretty low for these top tier schools (keep in mind there are many, many students with 3.9+ GPA’s and weighted 4.6+).
It honestly seems that you are trying to only use this nonprofit to get yourself a leg up in admissions. Did it mean anything to you? Does it link into your potential major?
If your ECs are all scattered plus this nonprofit and don’t paint a picture of what your passion is that is going to be a bad sign at Stanford and other top schools. It will look like you just did this to look good in college apps and not because you truly love it.
Will your essays be great? If you love your ECs and have a unique story to tell that will help when writing essays.
