Chances at transferring to Williams?

Both.... show how you are a unique person, and why your reason for transferring is unique.

Here is the website for Williams' Russian department. Pehaps you should try and contact one of the faculty... Again, make sure you give UMASS a chance. Don't go Rushin' into anything just yet... hehehehe... My humour is lost among the squares who frequent this website. Sigh...

I have actually met and interacted with a Williams professor during high school. He came and lectured to my Latin class and I introduced myself. He was absolutely stellar.

But I don't know exactly what I would say if I were to contact a faculty member right now...?

Aha. Another reason for transferring, that I had written in my essay notes, but forgot to mention here:

I am an accomplished pianist. At UMass, the only way I'd be able to take ANY music classes whatsoever would be if I majored/minored in music. Lessons and performance opportunities for me there are very limited; actually pretty much nonexistent (I contacted faculty on this already). However, at Williams, students are encouraged to take classes outside their major/concentration, so I'd be able to take some music classes.

Would that work as well?

Andrea, I just transferred out of UMass Amherst and I would say to take advantage of the 5 college system as much as possible. It's amazing. I took most of my classes at Amherst and I think that helped my application a lot (esp if you can get a recommendation from an Amherst prof). But as for getting into places like Williams, it's such a crapshoot.

Good luck and don't write off UMass right away.. you might end up liking it!

Thanks for the reply transferobsessed.

Can someone reply to my post #23?

ugh I hate doing this because it makes me feel like I'm being obnoxious but...bump.

lol hmm well obviously it would work...i'm not really sure what else you're looking for. you've got several good reasons so just hope they're better than the other 99 ppl's reasons. at least you're up against a small pool of applicants. good luck.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

I know this is years later but what ever happened AndreaMSkate?? I’m part of the five college consortium as well, Mount Holyoke, and am considering transferring to Williams.

AndreaMSkate didn’t get in. Click on ther name look at other posts and you can see how his last one is about not getting in. Though I could have told you that from the first post.

As kid who transferred out of Umass to a top school 30 (and got into a top 5 LAC), I watched tons of people apply to transfer. Some kids never really learned for their first round of rejections and you could always just see them set themselves up for rejection again.

^And click on their name and see that they haven’t been active on CC since that post, over a year and a half ago.
