I was hoping those of you who applied to Amherst could give me some insight into what kind of stats you had. I was considering applying for the Fall of 2010, but my GPA has slipped and now I am reconsidering, but perhaps it is still worth trying.... I don't know. I am involved in school, have EC, I am in the Honors program and will get great recs.. so perhaps this will help balance my application. Let me know what you think.... Thanks.

Hey,

I was rejected, but I figure my stats could help!

Wesleyan U. —> MCC (honors program) —> transfer
GPA - 3.9
SAT - 1490/1600 (720CR 770M)
Two great professor recommendations
A recommendation from my counselor (She rocks. I know it must have been excellent)
A personal recommendation (from a HS teacher)
- She sat in on classes that I taught after school at her high school, so it was job related (i.e., I didn’t know her while I was in HS).
A second personal recommendation (from a former peer)

Work Experience - keep in mind I have been living on my own since I was 17
- Several LAME part-time jobs
- Residential Counselor for homeless teens (current)
- Test Prep Instructor (current)
- Tutor (current)

I’ve also had a lot of family and personal hardships. However, I focused my essays on what I want to achieve and my personal growth. I think I should have, at least, addressed my hardship. Also, you want to make sure that you take an active role in the admission process (i.e., call with questions and visit if you can).

Two years ago, D1 applied and was accepted as a soph transfer. As a fr, she was accepted to several selective privates, including A, but attended a top public with a full scholarship.

HS: 4.0 UW gpa, hardest courses, 2370 SAT, 800, 780 SAT IIs, Latina, ECs directed towards medical and public health interests.

College: 3.9 gpa, reasonable ECs, strong LORs from upper division course and fr seminar prof.
