Chances at UF

i posted this in the College Admissions forum yesterday, but i think this is a more appropriate forum.

I'm a bit worried as to whether I will get accepted to the University of Florida, especially since it is becoming quite competitive these days (not nearly as competitive as ivy league, but it's not just a state school anymore)

here's some info about myself, after just completing junior year:

in the full IB diploma program (i have heard UF is the most pro-IB university in the world)

3 AP classes taken junior year only

3.3 unweighted GPA, 4.2 weighted GPA (i do have some scattered C's on semester grades, but my junior year was very good and did not have any C's)

attend one of the best high schools in the country even according to newsweek, west coast of florida

class rank currently about 85/140 for the IB class, probably around 20% for the whole high school senior class (approx. 500 students)

over 250 volunteer hours (due to IB) all at one place since freshman year

was once in mu alpha theta, currently in spanish honor society, NHS, etc

no job ever held

i scored 1920 on new SAT in march (600 CR, 590 M, 730 W), retook june 4 and am waiting for results

no sports or other extracurriculars, but i am very much into art and computers and design...i have independently studied quite a lot of programming and design

in addition, my brother is currently an undergraduate junior at UF. for the application, i will not blow it off, i will have a very good recommendation and i will produce a solid essay.

what do you think? i'm actually pretty worried....should i be?

bump...anyone?

You have a good shot, but the Unweighted GPA might hurt a little, I'm in Florida as well, and have a 3.477 unweighted, and I'm not too sure I would get in, if I was applying, but as long as your SAT is a little higher, you definitely have a shot there. It's unfortunate however, that with all of your community service, you have hardly any strong EC's, no leadership positions, or jobs, that might hurt a bit as well. You definitely have a shot with good essays, rec's though. Good luck!
